The Game of Thrones ending has already got the best out of all of us. George R.R. Martin has foreshadowed all of us with his mysterious hints.
Anne Groell, who is his book editor said, “I have understood his three fold revelation plan. It happens almost every time. The first is the subtle hint for the sharp readers. The next one is a little more obvious one for the lesser involved ones. The final one is the ultimate revelation, in plain words.”
So, maybe Martin has already revealed the Game of Thrones ending which hiding right beneath our noses. So, here is a list of eight Game of Thrones endings which are based on a few book clues and hints.
The Sansa & Tyrion Ending
There have been quite a few theories going around that Tyrion and Sansa might end up together. And there is also historical evidence for this Game of thrones ending. The book has foreshadowed Sansa and Tyrion presiding over Westeros. The book’s initial introduction of Tyrion described that at a particular moment, he stood as tall as a king. And Sansa’s first introduction describes her as the Stark of Winterfell who would someday become a queen.
The Wizard of Oz Ending
There is another theory which suggests that Bran is still in a coma. All of the happenings are just his thoughts and he is putting everybody together in his Old Nan’s stories. The Game of Thrones ending will be where Bran wakes up from his sleep surrounded by his family members.
This Game of Thrones ending is actually possibly since Old Nan has forecasted so much about the story. Of course, it is an interesting possibility. But, George R.R.Martin might not be petty enough to reduce this epic into a dream sequence.
The Princess Bride ending
This Game of Thrones ending is influenced by another fantasy book and movie called The Princess Bride. In the movie, an old man narrates a story to a young boy. And whatever story he narrates actually happens in real life. Some fans connect it to Old Nan’s predictions. She might be in charge of all the events of the story. And whenever Bran turns into the raven to go into the past, he is asking his Old Nan for the backstory.
With these predictions, it is a possibility that Bran will wake up with his Old Nan around. And then he will ask her to read out another story.
Game of Thrones ending puts Bran all the way
Another Game of Thrones ending might involve JUST Bran. That he has influenced everything. Starting from building the Wall to turning Aegon Targaryen into the Mad King. He might even reveal himself to be the Night King himself.
This theory has been foreshadowed in the books. But, it certainly has not died out in the series.
The Lord of the Rings Ending
There have been many parallels between the Lord of the Rings and the Game of Thrones series. We also know that Martin is a big fan of the LOTR series and the Game of Thrones ending might be influenced by it. This theory revolves around the Crypts of Winterfell.
This place has been associated with being a ghost place. Jon has told Sam many times that he has dreamt about the crypt. He fears that what would awaken within them. Even Ned felt that he was being watched over by the icy eyes of the Kings of Winter. So there might be a possibility that the stone Starks in the Winterfell crypts will come back to life.
In Tolkien’s LOTR, an army of ghosts had come to save the day in the end. Similarly, even in GOT, the stone Stark army would come alive and fight against the White Walkers. (including Ned)
The Night’s Watch could be the Lightbringer
Hardcore Game of Thrones fans have noticed the connection between the prophecy of Azor Ahair and the vow of the Night’s Watch. The former talks about the prophecy of a Promised Prince who will wield a sword of light. The latter says that they are the sword in the darkness and fire that burns against the colds. And also the light that marks the dawn.
This Game of Thrones ending would mean that the Night’s Watch could be the sword that would defeat the Night King. Seems a little damp though.
The Prince that was Promised Ending
Game of Thrones fans have always assumed that The Promised Prince would be someone who would return. But, it might not be that simple. It might be talking about a prince who was involved in a promise. Remember Lyanna saying her final words, “Promise me, Ned.”
Mind blown? Yeah. But, according to that logic, a lot of princes have promised a lot of things to many people.
Game of Thrones ending with George’s letter to his publisher
George R.R. Martin’s original outline for the story of A Song of Ice and Fire and pretty different from the Game of Thrones show. Now, Martin had mentioned a few names who would make it to the end. In the original story Arya, Bran, Daenerys, Jon and Tyrion were the ones who would make it to the end. As you can notice, Sansa Stark is MIA in this. Hence, this completely nullifies the first theory in this list.
And as usual, these are just predictions about the various Game of Thrones endings that we might have. We need to wait for Game of Thrones Season 8 to see if any one of these endings would actually come true.
