Elaine Hendrix was born on December 28, 1970, and grew up in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Her father had less influence over her name because he was serving in the Vietnam War when she was born.
Although her mother named her Katherine Elaine, the majority of her family continued to refer to her by her middle name.

Hendrix joined the Gary Harrison Dance Company as a professional dancer after winning a model search in her senior year of high school.
She quickly divided her time between working as a professional dancer and model for brands including Sun Microsystems, Nike, Levi’s, and Mattel, as well as for several hip-hop musicians like MC Hammer, Keith Sweat, and Whodini.
Her early career as a model and dancer ended when she was struck by a car while riding her bike shortly after moving to Los Angeles, California, in 1992.

After becoming a vegan in 2006, Elaine Hendrix became a fervent animal rights activist and advocate for animals. In her free time, she travels across North America and collaborates with groups worldwide to build habitats, educate, protest, lecture, transport, and rescue.
She established The Pet Matchmaker in 2012, a group that promotes and encourages the adoption, fostering, and rescue of abandoned animals worldwide. She is a member of the US chapter of No to Dog Meat and the board of Stray Rescue of St. Louis.
