Ellen Degeneres has shared many laughs, tears, and memories on her talk show. A lot has changed in 18 years. Ellen’s generosity lives on.
There is a rumor that Ellen will be giving out a large bonus to her staff as the show ends. A source told The Post that “Ellen and [production company] Warner Bros. worked together to make sure every person was taken care of,” stating that she would be handing out “millions of dollars” in bonuses.
Ellen wanted to make her staff feel appreciated, so bonuses were essential, according to a source. “It was not even a question for Ellen to cover bonuses … That was very important to her.”
She ran into rating issues in 2020 after allegations of an extremely toxic work environment. One employee was let go from the show when he or she needed to attend a family funeral after taking medical leave or bereavement days. She left the job because of negative comments about her race. The environment was so depraved that people were told they couldn’t talk to Ellen if they walked by her office.
There were instances of top executives engaging in sexual harassment of employees.
The claims led to a public apology from Ellen, who said she wasn’t aware of all the problems that arose from the allegations. “Anyone who knows me knows it’s the opposite of what I believe and what I hoped for our show,” she said in the apology.
In the final season, Ellen has taken it up a notch on how she treats her employees, of which 30 percent are ones who have been with her for over a decade. A source told The Post that she gave gifts to everyone, including trips, watches, and cars.
There is still a lot of fun to be had until May. Serena Williams, Adam Levine, and many more will visit.
