Twitter owner, Elon Musk is in the news for temporarily imposing limits on users’ tweet consumption. The tech billionaire is receiving backlash for exhausting the number of tweets a user can read in a day. He stated the number of tweets verified and unverified Twitter users will be able to read in a day.
Elon Musk Temporarily Limits Tweet Consumption
On July 1, 2023, the Twitter owner announced that users will now be able to read limited tweets per day. After thousands of Twitter users complained about being unable to view tweets, Musk took to his Twitter to address the situation.
“To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:
– Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
– Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
– New unverified accounts to 300/day”
Before the announcement, several users also reported that their feeds were not loading at all. They had shared screenshots of their app which stated, “Sorry, you are rate limited. Please wait a few moments then try again.”
While the unverified users are frustrated with Elon Musk’s new rules limiting their usage, the verified users are also annoyed with the new limit. Some verified users also shared their views about the new rule.
“Why do verified accounts have a limit? I understand unverified but why verified?”

“@ElonMusk Does anyone in your group of advisors ever say “No” to you? Do they ever say, “That action will create the following unwanted consequences”? I started using Twitter early. And watched it grow as a community and platform. You are killing it, Mate. And not in a good way.”

“Just when you thought Twitter can’t be any worse… Congratulations, Elon. You’ve totally ruined this platform.”

Elon Musk Revises Tweet Limits
Amid all the backlash and trolling for his “temporary limit” on tweet consumption, Musk decided to revise the limit. He increased the limits for verified users to 8000 tweets per day, 800 tweets a day for unverified users, and 400 tweets a day for new unverified users. Since the trolling did not stop, the Tesla owner further increased the limits to 10K for verified users, 1K for unverified users, and 0.5K for new unverified users.
