Emma Stone had made a huge blunder during The Amazing Spider-Man auditions and didn’t expect to bag the role. What was it and how was her experience filming this superhero movie?
Emma Stone’s role as Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man is remembered as one of her most iconic roles. She has managed to make a name for herself through her excellent portrayal of Gwen.
But many might not know that she was going to miss the role as she wasn’t very excited about the auditions. Emma had been acting prominently in comedy movies before she got the chance to become part of the superhero genre. Emma herself admitted in an interview that this was not an easy decision.
People around me were sceptical about my decision. Even though I was unsure at a point but I am glad it all paid off in the end
Well, the reason behind this was that Emma Stone had given huge hits in the rom-com genre. So it was a big decision to shift towards the action genre since The Amazing Spider-Man was an extremely popular franchise of that time (and even today). But all the worries and apprehensions were put to rest once she met her co-star Andrew Garfield who would become her real-life partner. She added
I heard about Spider-Man and I didn’t think it was something I would want to be a part of. I just thought that probably isn’t right for me
It was her auditions with Andrew Garfield that helped to engage in the project. Emma mentioned in an almost decade-old interview about their relationship that stemmed during the filming process. Garfield and Emma started dating soon after the filming ended.Mentioning her bonding with Andrew she added
We managed to build a fantastic relationship. I was earlier too close-minded but Andrew made me open up. Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful to get a co-star like Andrew.
Emma Stone Didn’t Expect Anything
Stone had assumed that she would never get the role. Stone had given the auditions but was not sure if she would manage to bag the role. The auditions for the role were tough and Emma was unsure if she gave her best.
“I was incredibly lucky as I was the only candidate on the first day of auditions. I was nervous and was convinced I’d made a mess of everything.
Marc Webb Impressed With Emma Stone’s Performance
Emma Stone added that she was surprised when the director informed her that she had bagged the role. Infact the director was quite impressed with Emma’s acting. Considering the fact that Emma had been doing mostly romantic movies, Marc Webb, the director of Amazing Spider-Man was surprised by Stone’s performance.
Marc Webb stated in an interview that it was really fun with Emma.
I know that, when we did a screen test, what was great was that Emma brought a level of humour and levity that Andrew really responded to, and there was this immediate sense of lightness in the interaction.
