Who is Enzo Kok?
Enzo Kok, a gifted violinist from the Netherlands, was born in Kerkrade, in the Limburg region, on August 14, 2002. At the age of six, he began playing the violin and soon revealed his remarkable musical talent.
Vico and Nathalie Kok, who are passionate about music, gave birth to him and have been very supportive of his career. He has two musically talented sisters, Emma and Sophie Kok, with Emma having recently competed on The Voice Kids Netherlands in 2021.
Education
In 2011, Enzo Kok was welcomed into the talent class at the local music school in Kerkrade, where he was initially taught by Ingrid Holleman. His violin lessons there continued until 2016, which was the same year he got admitted to the Sweelinck Academy – a school for the finest Dutch musicians at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Enzo began his undergraduate violin studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory in 2019 alongside Wiesje Miedema and Eliot Lawson. He successfully concluded his bachelor’s degree in 2023 with the best grade possible. Come October 2023, he will commence his postgraduate studies at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Professor Ulf Wallin.
Career
Since childhood, Enzo Kok has been involved in multiple performances, contests, and festivals. His extraordinary talent and musical abilities have always won him the admiration of both the judges and the audience.
He earned the ‘Labberté-Hoedemakers Award’ at the Peter de Grote Festival in Groningen, The Netherlands in 2017. Furthermore, he was one of three finalists of the ‘Davina van Wely’ Dutch Violin Competition in 2018.
In 2019, he was the top winner in the national finals of the Prinses Christina Concours. The following year, he earned the first prize at the International Anton Rubinstein Competition for Young Violinists in Düsseldorf, Germany.
In 2021, he was honored with the Kersjes Violin Scholarship, a prestigious award that grants him financial aid and guidance for his continued growth.
Enzo Kok is frequently seen on stages in the Netherlands and overseas. He has graced locations like Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Utrecht’s Tivoli Vredenburg, Rotterdam’s De Doelen, Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Germany’s Philharmonie Essen and Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música.
He has graced stages at various festivals, including Festival Classique in The Hague, Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, Wonderfeel Festival in ‘s-Graveland, Festival Next Generation in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, and Festival Pablo Casals in Prades, France.
Enzo Kok has worked with some of the most celebrated names in music, like Daniel Rowland, Lisa Jacobs, Iris Hond, and members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
He has been featured as a performer with orchestras including the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orkest The Hague, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Camerata RCO, Sinfonia Rotterdam, Nederlands Kamerorkest, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León.
