HBO’s Euphoria, due to its stunning cinematography, top-notch acting, and frightening sex scenes, has become a buzz of the town. The stakes increase with each episode, and what begins as a few casual adolescent love moments quickly turns into clandestine relationships, scandalous encounters, and a ton of explicit nudity.
The series, which stars Zendaya as the addict Rue, examines the lives of a group of teens as they attempt to come to grips with their addictions, sexuality, sense of self, and profound unresolved fears.
While some would believe that the show is just intended for a teenage audience, it delivers much more than just adolescent drama and can even cause an adult to reflect on their own difficult yet dramatic adolescence.
Even if the romantic moments in “Euphoria” transgress boundaries, they still have a powerful impact since they are all immediately relevant for someone who is truly dealing with anxiety or serious addictions. ‘Euphoria’ may easily trigger people who are sensitive to adult content because it is filled with horrific tales of youth that are self-destructive and self-loathing. But those who can handle it will discover that it has a lot more emotional weight to it than it appears.
Given the controversy surrounding the show’s constant displays of affection, we have compiled a list of all of these moments to help you remember the show’s somber yet instructive themes. According to when they first appear in the program and how important they are to the overall plot, each of the Euphoria sex scenes listed below has been ranked chronologically.
10. Wrong Impressions (Season 1 Episode 1)
The first episode of “Euphoria” opens with some fancy trips where Zendaya basically introduces herself and narrates her road towards self-destruction. Zendaya’s hoarse voice can be heard in the background. She discusses her lifelong battles with obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, attention deficit disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. She took a darker route to escape, where using narcotics appeared to make life easier.
In the meantime, two more series characters are introduced: Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and McKay (Algee Smith). In the opening scene of the first episode, McKay tells his football friends that he likes Cassie, but they tell him that she isn’t really like that. They even play him an old private video of her hooking up with a different man. This gives McKay the incorrect idea, and when they later hook up, he tries to choke Cassie but she stops him right away.
At that point, Rue, played by Zendaya, says in a voice-over, “I promise you, this does not end in a rape.” Several real-time graphic pornographic video clips follow. Later in the series, Cassie’s sex tape is discussed with a backstory that reveals she always feared being alone as a child and that’s why she put herself into meaningless relationships where she wasn’t even appreciated enough. Cassie’s sex tape is then addressed on. She even fell in love with McKay because he made her feel different. However, as the series progresses, her past begins to resurface, and McKay is also forced to deal with the fallout from her previous deeds.
9. Awkward Experiences (Season 2 Episode 4)
Rue and Jules’ relationship is important to the plot of the show. After a turbulent first season, the two girls are attempting to achieve stability in the second season. However, Rue concealing her addiction causes all kinds of problems for the two. In the fourth episode of Season 2, Jules visits Rue for the first time, and the mood is palpably uneasy. Rue’s narrative compares the experience (her first) to a variety of things, but the bottom line is that she simply isn’t experiencing it. Although the action is more unpleasant than sexual, it serves as another reminder of Rue and Jules’ incompatibility.
8. Acceptance (Season 1 Episode 1)
Jules (Hunter Schafer) is introduced as a character later in the first episode. She meets a man at a motel after conversing with him on a dating app. He commits statutory rape. This scene is extremely upsetting because it depicts full-frontal nudity, and it becomes much more terrible when the man’s true identity is revealed. Jules is eventually shown to be a trans woman, and the man, Cal, has a penchant for women like her. What’s more stunning is that Cal is the father of a jock who attends the same high school as Jules.
Jules’ past is reflected on later in the series, and with a backstory, it is depicted how she has always struggled with gender identity. Her mother had admitted her to a medical facility when she was a child, forcing her to abandon her delusory notions of being labeled as trans.
But it was her father who eventually embraced her for who she was and allowed her to be herself. Even then, despite her pride in who she was, she could only meet guys who were guilty of being near her. All of this eventually led to the events in the motel, where she tried to tell herself that she wasn’t herself in these moments, but deep down she knows she’s looking for nothing more than acceptance for who she truly is.
7. New Year’s Hook Up (Season 2 Episode 1)
The second season premiere of ‘Euphoria’ features a spectacular New Year’s Eve party and a stunning pairing that drives the conflict in the second season. Nate and Cassie run into each other at a gas station in the episode titled ‘Trying to Get to Heaven Before They Close the Door,’ and soon connect over a talk about their recent breakups.
Sparks flare between the youngsters while traveling to the party, leading to a casual hookup in the restroom during the party. Although Maddy’s intervention cuts Nate and Cassie’s passionate fling short, the moment is particularly shocking owing to its sheer scandalous ness within the show’s narrative setting.
6. Consequences (Season 1 Episode 1)
Euphoria’s pilot is packed with scandalous moments that ultimately snowball into much larger issues. Surprisingly, one seemingly inconsequential sex scene early on becomes a crucial plot point in the show. Maddy, who is on and off with her boyfriend Nate, engages in a spontaneous hookup with a random college guy named Tyler at a swimming pool. Initially, it appears to be an act of casual revenge against Nate, but things take an unexpected turn when her classmates record the entire public display for obvious reasons.
Later, after reconciling with Nate, Maddy dismisses the incident, claiming that Tyler had coerced her into it, and she was unaware of her actions due to feeling almost unconscious. As the story unfolds, Nate is accused of abusing Maddy, and cunningly, he manages to shift the blame onto Tyler for the entire event. To Tyler’s dismay, his casual encounter with Maddy turns out to be the biggest mistake of his life, as it becomes a significant factor in Nate’s manipulation of the situation.
5. Fantasy (Season 2 Episode 2)
In the second episode of ‘Euphoria’ season 2, titled ‘Out of Touch,’ Kat discusses her connection with Ethan with Maddy. The two youngsters are in love and have the perfect high school relationship. However, in Kat’s opinion, things are far from perfect. Instead of being honest about her feelings, Kat lies about her fantastic sex life with Etha, leading to one of the season’s best sensual sequences. Kat imagines a savage warrior slaying Ethan and having passionate sex with her in her fantasy sequence. The scenario has a ‘Game of Thrones’ flavor to it, emphasizing Kat’s sexual tensions with Ethan.
4. High School Sweethearts (Season 2 Episode 3)
In the third episode of season 2, viewers are introduced to the backstory of Cal Jacobs. During his junior year, Cal crosses paths with the fearless and confident Marsha. As they start dating, they embark on a journey of discovering their sexuality together. On a long drive, Marsha openly expresses her affection for Cal, leading to a physical exploration that culminates in an intimate encounter of oral sex. From that point onward, their passion becomes unstoppable, and the young couple seizes every opportunity to engage in sexual activities.
Their encounters know no bounds, as they explore each other’s desires in various settings, from the bedroom to the bathroom, leaving no surface untouched in their sexual intimacy. The storyline delves into the intricacies of their relationship and the intensity of their physical connection, presenting a compelling narrative in the second season.
3. Secret (Season 2 Episode 3)
One of the major conflicts in season 2 revolves around the clandestine affair between Cassie and Nate. What initially began as a casual hookup gradually blossoms into something resembling a romance, yet neither of them is willing to acknowledge or confront their true feelings. Despite their reservations, Nate and Cassie continue their secret rendezvous.
In the third episode of season 2, their physical intimacy reveals the depth of their infatuation for each other. The allure of keeping their relationship hidden adds an extra layer of excitement and arousal for both Cassie and Nate. However, this scene also serves as a cautious foreshadowing of the explosive consequences their secret tryst will eventually bring upon them. As their story unfolds, viewers are made aware of the ticking time bomb that threatens to unravel their hidden romance in a dramatic and unpredictable manner.
2. McKay’s Humiliation (Season 1 Episode 6)
In the aftermath of the first episode, McKay’s character fades into the background, receiving little to no attention. However, just as the audience starts to forget about him, Episode 6 shines a light on his past. McKay, once a promising athlete with aspirations of becoming a professional football player, finds himself struggling in college. Spending most games as a benchwarmer, he begins to question his own abilities and loses his sense of purpose.
Amid this turmoil, he crosses paths with Cassie and falls deeply in love with her. For a while, their relationship appears to be harmonious, until one fateful day when masked seniors intrude into their private bedroom and subject McKay to a humiliating ordeal. This bitter moment leaves him shattered, but he recollects his father’s words, urging him not to succumb to doubt. Determined to regain a sense of control, he attempts to engage in intimate acts with Cassie again, resorting to a dominant approach.
This particular sex scene serves as a representation of McKay’s desperate attempt to assert power over Cassie, but in doing so, he loses touch with his own identity. Unbeknownst to him, this experience triggers painful memories for Cassie, reminding her of past boyfriends who disrespected her. As a result, her feelings for McKay begin to waver, leading to emotional turmoil in their relationship.
This powerful scene delves into the complexities of human emotions and the consequences of trying to mask vulnerability with misplaced displays of dominance. It also sheds light on the impact of past experiences on current relationships, making it a pivotal moment in the narrative of the series.
1. Jules’ Guilt and Confusion (Season 1 Episode 7)
In the penultimate episode, the relationship between Jules and Rue becomes increasingly complex, but neither of them takes the initiative to confront their issues. Feeling at a crossroads, Jules decides to confront her problems by escaping town and meeting an old friend. At a rave with her friend, she hits it off instantly with her roommate, leading to a passionate encounter. As things escalate quickly, they end up having sex.
However, during this intimate moment, Jules’ mind begins to drift subtly between thoughts of Rue, the girl she’s with, and Nate. Haunted by memories of Nate, she realizes that her heart still aches for him. She also feels guilty for not being with Rue and starts envisioning her in bed instead. This entire scene is a captivating cinematic trip, with dazzling colors, vibrant club music, and flashy visuals that add to the intensity of the moment.
