Many members of the famous celebrity friends’ families of Prince Harry and Meghan, as well as the vast majority of those friends’ families, have decided not to be in the controversial Netflix documentary.
Netflix has said in ads that the first three episodes, which are set to air today, will include interviews with the couple’s “friends and family.” These materials came out before those episodes were shown on TV.
A source has heard, though, that several important allies, like music producer David Foster, Vogue editor Edward Enninful, and Elton John, will not be at the event.
People think that Oprah Winfrey and the Obamas aren’t involved either, since they aren’t known to be involved in projects like this.
Also, there won’t be a single “talking head” royal in the Harry and Meghan series, not even Princess Eugenie, with whom they still get along well. This includes all of the children from both royal couples.
Edward Enninful, who is the editor of Vogue, is not there. This may be the most surprising absence of all. When Meghan agreed to be the guest editor for the “Forces for Change” issue in September 2019, it was a big win for him.
It was the issue of Vogue that sold the most copies in the shortest amount of time, and in an article for the magazine, Meghan said that she and Enninful were “like-minded thinkers who have so much in common.”
The next year, Enninful said he thought she was unfairly criticized in the media storm that followed Megxit, which was when the couple decided to move to California.
People who know the editor of Vogue well, however, have confirmed that he will not be at the event. In an article he wrote recently, he praised the Princess of Wales for her “graceful” style.
Sir Elton, who was a close friend of Princess Diana and has gone out of his way to defend Harry and Meghan in the past, is another important person who is not there but will play a big role.
They have taken family vacations at his home near Nice, France, which he shares with her husband, David Furnish. Furnish was one of the executives on the Archewell show Pearl, which was canceled.
Last week, Prince Harry sent a thank-you message to the singer in the form of a video message. In the message, the prince thanked the singer for being a friend to him, his wife, their children, and his late mother.
Sir Elton was also a guest at William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, and both William and Harry think of him as their godfather. “Your Song” by Sir Elton John was the first song the Waleses danced to as a married couple.
This week, a representative said that music producer Mr. Foster did not take any party. During the Megxit crisis, he and Harry became good friends, and Mr. Foster helped them find a temporary place to live in Canada before they moved to California.
In California, where they all live, the four people have been seen eating together, and Meghan and Mr. Foster’s wife, Katharine McPhee, were in the same class in the past.
Also, it may turn out that their favorite journalist, Omid Scobie, is not one of the people featured on the show.
Despite the fact that neither Miss Winfrey nor the Obamas have responded to requests for comment, sources in the United States say that both are wary of getting involved in what they see as “family drama.”
According to the information that a source got, William and Harry’s longtime friend Guy Pelly won’t be there either. Tina Brown, a royal biographer and former editor of Vanity Fair, has been writing about the drama at Buckingham Palace since Princess Diana was young. Brown has nothing to do with this case.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who are thought to be the Sussexes’ closest friends among the younger royal family members, will not be there. This was confirmed yesterday.
Sarah, the Duchess of York, who has been in a tell-all TV special before, won’t be on camera either, and neither will her ex-husband Andrew. Later this year, the special is set to air.
Charles, Camilla, Charles’s son, and daughter-in-law, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Charles’s grandson and granddaughter-in-law will not be in the video.
Earl Spencer’s spokesperson wouldn’t say if he or his sisters Jane and Sarah might show up, but sources say it’s very unlikely that any of them will.
At this point, only Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is left as a possible family member to appear on the show. She has never been seen or heard talking on camera before, and as of the night before, no one knew for sure if she would show up or not.
In the meantime, there are signs that the public will respond to the high-profile show with pushback. As of this writing, the first Netflix trailer on YouTube has 20,000 likes and 288,000 dislikes, while the second has 16,000 likes and 133,000 dislikes.
