Floyd III, a former member of the Black Panther Party who left due to disagreements within the organization. According to Willis, her name has Swahili origins, with “Fani” meaning “prosperous” and “Taifa” meaning “people.”
During her first year of elementary school, she relocated to Washington, D.C. with her father, who was pursuing a career as a criminal defense lawyer. Following her parents’ divorce, she primarily lived with her father.
After graduating with honors in political science from Howard University in 1993, Fani went on to pursue further studies at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. In 1996, she completed her academic journey by earning a Juris Doctorate.
