A Dramatic Shift from Australia to Ireland
Two years after its debut, “The Tourist” is back, and this time, the captivating drama starring Jamie Dornan takes a turn from the Australian outback to the verdant landscapes of Ireland. This significant location change is not just a backdrop switch but a pivot that promises a fresh narrative twist in the series.
“My thinking was, ‘Where are we going? Like, if we’re doing this, where are we going?’ Because it was a bit of an upheaval to go to Australia,” shared Dornan, echoing the logistical shift behind the scenes.
Delving Deeper into Elliot’s Mysterious Past
In this season, viewers will accompany Elliot and his girlfriend, Helen, as they delve into the mysteries of his past. The creators, Harry and Jack Williams, initially toyed with various settings, including Canada, but eventually settled on Ireland, which offered a natural progression for the storyline.
“We resisted it for a while but then when we realised what it gave us, it just felt obvious,” Jack Williams remarked on the decision to set the series in Ireland.
The Beauty of Filming in Ireland
The production of Season 2 embraced the Irish countryside, with key scenes shot in Dublin, Bray, and Djouce in Wicklow. The Wicklow Mountains, known for their breathtaking beauty, served as the perfect setting for pivotal scenes in the series.
“It was properly beautiful. You don’t have to go too far in Ireland to find a beautiful spot,” Dornan commented, highlighting the stark contrast yet comparable beauty of Ireland to Australia’s outback.
The Joy of Working with an Irish Crew
Jamie Dornan, an Irish native himself, expressed immense joy in filming in his homeland. He praised the Irish crew for their professionalism, hard work, and the unique enjoyment they bring to the art of filmmaking.
“There’s a general sort of buoyancy to it, everyone’s having fun. They’re professional and they work very hard and they’re very good at what they do, but there’s just a serious level of enjoyment to making art there,” Dornan said, encapsulating the spirited atmosphere of the Irish set.
“The Tourist” Season 2 not only promises thrilling twists and deeper explorations into its characters’ pasts but also showcases the inherent beauty and culture of Ireland. This season is poised to be a vivid tapestry of mystery, drama, and scenic magnificence, cementing its place as a must-watch on the global drama stage.
