Finger Lumber Co. has been associated with Ann Arbor for more than 87 years and it is now planning to close down.
The business was started by the grandfathers of brothers John and Mark Fingerle in 1931 and they are the third generation to run and grow the business. But they stated that now they are willing to retire and therefore close down the operations.
The president of the company John Fingerle, along with his brother Mark, the vice president of the company stated that they have given the information regarding the closure to their staff and the closing up will take place in 2019, though that won’t be on the 1st of January.
John Fingerle stated that though the brothers don’t have a specific date in mind but they are certain that it will happen sometime in 2019. He further added that they are planning to sell the assets of the company which includes the seven to eight acres of the property that the company owns, which is located on both the sides of the Fifth Avenue as well as Madison Street.
John Fingerle further stated that he is not expecting any other business of lumber to take over. As for who will buy the properties of Finger Lumber Company, which are nothing less than prime pieces of real estate located in the vicinity of the downtown Ann Arbor as well as Michigan Stadium and the University of Michigan, still remains future yet to be seen.
John further stated he does not believe that it will happen and added that they are planning to sell off all of their vehicles along with the inventory and displays.
John said that the two brothers are ready to wing things down so as to be able to devote time to other matters.
