There is nothing on Earth as mysterious as the sea and the underwater worlds, which we still don’t know much about.
These fishermen found this out the hard way when they caught a catfish that could have broken a record. People were amazed.
This doesn’t even look like something from our planet.
A massive catch.
For fisherman Benjamin Gründer, it was just another day like any other.
Until something extraordinary happened.
Gründer was fishing on the River Po in Italy when his hook caught something that felt different.
Only he could never have imagined catching a catfish that was so big.
Fighting the fish.
Gründer thought he had hooked a tree at first because he had never caught a fish that was this strong.
The fisherman didn’t know what could be pulling so hard on his fishing pole, so he thought he must have caught a log or something else inanimate.
He was wrong.
He kept reeling.
Just in case he really was about to catch the biggest fish he had ever seen. He knew he had caught something special when he saw the fish move.
You might think it would take Gründer hours to reel in a 9-foot, 300-pound catfish, but he did it in 45 minutes.
When he finally caught the fish, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The fish was so big that many people thought it must be a record.
Only if he had weighed it. We’ll probably never know for sure, but it looks like that’s what happened.
If you ask us, Gründer’s catfish looks much bigger than 300 pounds, but you can decide for yourself.
The Mekong giant catfish, which was 9 feet long and weighed 646 pounds, was the biggest catfish ever recorded, but Gründer’s looks just as big or bigger.
In 2005, two Thai fishermen were fishing in the Mekong river near their village when they caught a 9-foot catfish that weighed almost 700 pounds and took over an hour to reel in.
Experts say it is the biggest fish ever seen in freshwater.
Do you think Gründer’s looks bigger?
We’d say it’s close, but it’s hard to tell. It’s a good thing they took pictures of Gründer’s catfish, or no one would have believed this huge fish even existed.
This isn’t the first time the expert fisherman has caught a big catfish.
His Instagram is full of them.
Check out Benjamin Gründer’s social media to see more of his amazing catches, but it’s still not clear how big many of them are.
Always a catch, never a keeper.
This is because he catches the fish and then puts them back in the water.
When fish like these are found in murky lakes and rivers, it makes you wonder what else is out there, but if you’re going to swim in them this summer, you probably don’t want to know.
