Pele, a football star from Brazil, has died at the age of 82, as per his agent.
Many people think that the former Santos FC star is one of the best footballers of all time. He has been at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo since November 29.
Just before Christmas, he got a medical report that said he needed care for heart and kidney problems. Since September 2021, he has been fighting colon cancer.
On Instagram, his daughter Kely Nascimento paid her father a tribute:
We are thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.
Pele, whose real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, started playing for Santos when he was 15. A year later, he joined the Brazilian national team. In 1958, when he was only 17, he made a big splash in the World Cup.
During his international career, he was the only player to win three World Cups, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
The hospital said in a statement that he died on Thursday at 3:27 p.m. Brazil time because his colon cancer caused problems with many of his organs.
Gary Lineker was one of the people who praised Pele’s life after he died.
He said on Twitter:
The most divine of footballers and joyous of men.
He played a game only a few chosen ones have come close to.
Sir Geoff Hurst, who won the World Cup with England, said that Pele is “still the best of all time.”
He said:
I have so many memories of Pele, without doubt the best footballer I ever played against (with Bobby Moore being the best footballer I ever played alongside).
For me Pele remains the greatest of all time and I was proud to be on the the pitch with him. RIP Pele and thank you.
Lionel Messi, who is also widely thought to be one of the best footballers of all time, had a simple thought to share:
Rest in peace.
Pele’s role in Brazil’s third win, in Mexico in 1970, is a part of football lore, as he was a key member of what is likely the best international team in the history of the sport.
From 1957 to 1977, he had a very successful 20-year career, during which he scored 757 goals in 831 games, though Santos says that number was closer to 1,000.
After Pele died, there was a post on his official Instagram account that said he “enchanted the world.”
Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today.
On his journey, Edson enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love.
His message today becomes a legacy for future generations.
Love, love and love, forever.
