Director Thomas Bidegain Accused Jake Gyllenhaal Of Derailing The Movie Project
According to director Thomas Bidegain, Jake Gyllenhaal’s independent movie fell through due to the actor’s purportedly unpredictable actions while filming. Bidegain’s latest project, Soudain Seuls, was recently debuted in France as a foreign-language feature.
Initially, the plan was for the movie to be shot in English in 2021, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby playing the main roles.
During a recent interview with Technikart, the filmmaker makes several statements that have been refuted by both actors. These statements include accusing Gyllenhaal and Kirby of disrespectfully reading the script using a “Pepe Le Pew” accent.
The A.V Club reported that the project was in the works for 10 months, with the two actors collaborating on the script. However, the director abruptly halted filming after only four days.
According to reports, Gyllenhaal and Bidegain initially had differing interpretations of the film’s message. Bidegain viewed it as a story about love’s ability to rescue the world in times of danger, while Gyllenhaal supposedly had a contrasting viewpoint.
It is said that after taking a walk in the forest and encountering a horse, Gyllenhaal returned to the writers’ room and played Greta Thunberg videos set to rock music, shedding tears as he declared that the film was actually about having a deep appreciation for nature.
Some other reported allegations involve Jake Gyllenhaal supposedly insisting on being provided with a car that was not red or white by the production team, as he was unwilling to fly due to his worries about COVID-19. It is also said that he stripped down to his underwear and plunged into the icy ocean while scouting for filming locations.
Bidegain stated that the nightmare came to an end after he had to make a difficult call to producer Alain Attal, who informed him that the film would not be produced.
“Our visions diverge too much. We won’t be able to shoot in September. It’s all over, and the $26 million is gone!”
According to insiders, A.V Club reported that the movie did not materialize because both Vanessa Kirby and Jake Gyllenhaal were dissatisfied with the screenplay.
Jake Gyllenhaal and StudioCanal’s representatives have made an effort to explain the director’s accusations by stating that the film’s English version was never officially approved. Instead, they claim that Gyllenhaal and Kirby’s four-day trip to Iceland was a part of the film’s development.
A representative of the A.V Club stated the following,
“In this case, there were concerns which simply could not be overcome despite great efforts on both sides. We greatly value all our relationships at STUDIOCANAL and are happy that Thomas Bidegain was able to fulfil his vision on the French language version of Suddenly.”
