Season 8 of Game of Thrones was a huge disappointment to fans and killed off their love for the show. The Battle of Winterfell and the brutal actions of the Mad Queen didn’t get the appreciation as expected by the showrunners. Director Miguel Sapochnik said that the Battle of Winterfell could have been totally different.

Game of Thrones director talks about an alternate ending
The fans saw several high profile deaths during the Battle of Winterfell including that of the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen). The fans weren’t expecting such an easy death of the Night King. They were expecting some more drama and appearance of the Night King. The entire build-up turned up to be a complete waste with such a quick death of the Night King.
Still, the fans were glad that the rest of the characters were safe. But director Miguel Sapochnik said that it could have been entirely different. If it was in his hands, the battle could have been a blood bath instead and more shocking for the fans. In an interview, Sapochnik revealed,
I wanted to kill everyone. I wanted to kill Jorah in the horse charge at the beginning. I was up for killing absolutely everyone.
There was a lot of argument regarding this issue between the director and the showrunners. Well, we are not sure if this would have got a better reaction from the fans. Sapochnik also revealed that he was under scrutiny for the first three months when he started working for the show.
Creating “Hardhome” was challenging as Sapochnik offended the writers. But that eventually led to how the rest of the show was shaped.
