Children are being named after Game of Thrones
As such, it is not a surprise that fans of the show are naming their children after its characters. According to the New York Times, Arya is fast becoming famous as it is now the 135th most popular name for a girl. In 2017: Twenty children were named Sansa; eleven were named Cersei, fifty-five Tyrion and twenty-three Theon children were named respectively.
For the last few years, we have seen the rise of Khaleesi as a popular baby name, even though it is actually not the name of the character in the show, it is only a title. A pair of parents have also told the newspaper that they are going to name their child Winter, just so that they can joke that Winter is Coming during pregnancy.
It has happened before
This is not a new phenomenon as people have been naming their children after their favorite fantasies for a long time now. The popularity of Lord of the Rings in 1970s resulted in several babies being named Aragorn, Arwen, and Willow.
With only 3 episodes remaining in Game of Thrones, we can expect to see an even more surge in baby names inspired from characters of the epic fantasy saga.
