Game of Thrones has always scooped up the inner phophecizer in us. Some of these prophecies get really hyped up but play no key role whatsoever. While some prophecies which are mentioned in the books never get to the screen but get a subtle nod.
Arya’s ‘green eyes’ prophecy is yet to be fulfilled. But, there is one major prophecy which you might have forgotten. And that might just hint as to how Daenerys Targaryen is going to die.
A Game of Thrones prophecy by Quaithe
If you remember, there was a character named Quaithe back in the second season of Game of Thrones. She was a mysterious woman who always had her face covered with a mask. She appeared a few times to advise Daenerys. But, in the GOT books, Quaithe appears quite a number of times to give valuable advice to Daenerys.
So, during A Dance With Dragons, Quaithe makes one last appearance and warns Daenerys about something.
Quaithe tells Daenerys that the glass candles are burning. She tells Dany that the pale mare will come and bring others will her. She also warns her not to trust the lion, the Griffin, the sun’s son, the mummer’s dragon, Kraken and the dark flame. Quaithe tells her to remember the Undying and be careful of the scented seneschal.
What does the prophecy mean?
The prophecy has different meanings in reference to A Dance With Dragons and the final episode of Game of Thrones season 8. So, let’s see what Daenerys tells Quaithe after this warning. She asks Quaithe as to why she has said all these things. And Quaithe tells her that she is showing the way to Dany. Quaithe must have known about the future and trying to warn Dany. So, let’s figure out what was Quaithe trying to warn Daenerys about.

The ‘glass candles’ talk about the return of magic into the world, because of Daenerys’ dragons getting born. But, what about the ‘pale mare’? In the book, it refers to an epidemic in Meereen. But, from the series perspective, it refers to the white horse that came to Arya in the fifth episode of Game of Thrones season 8.
So, what about the rest of the prophecy?
The Lion clearly means House Lannister. And that is Tyrion. The Sun’s son could be a reference to the new prince of Dorne. The Kraken represents House Greyjoy and Yara is the only one left. And the dragon is obviously, Jon Snow. We are still not sure about what the griffin or the dark flame means.
The last clue, the scented seneschal is a word used to describe a politician or a bureaucrat. Daenerys had suspected that it could be Reznak, who does not appear in the Game of Thrones show. But, from the show’s context, it might point to Varys. Who was Dany’s political advisor who used to often wear perfume? He might have died in the fifth episode, but we are sure that he might have got things going for Dany’s death before his demise.
So, what is going to happen in the final episode of Game of Thrones season 8? Will Yara, Jon, Arya and the new Prince of Dorne join forces to take down the Mother of Dragons? So, if that happens, Quaithe’s prophecy will come true.
