Game of Thrones premieres its last season tomorrow and the fandom is abuzz with excitement. After more than a year’s worth of wait, the last few hours seem impossibly long. So we looked at the rumour mill to distract ourselves.
Will there be a movie?

Speculations about a new Game of Thrones movie have been on the rise for several months now, and with the last season just around the corner, there are more and more rumours in the air. Showrunners initially had the idea of releasing Game of Thrones season 8 in three films, instead of the current 6 episodes format.
But the idea was scratched. Last year, Weiss, one of the showrunners said that it is not possible to connect to the characters in a film. He added, “It’s what we’re working towards in a perfect world. We end up with an epic fantasy story but with the level of familiarity and investment in the characters that are normally impossible in a two-hour movie.”
HBO reassured Benioff and Weiss that the channel will provide all the resources they need to give the epic fantasy saga the ending it deserves.
New prequel for GoT?
However, fans do have something to look forward to after the last season. George RR Martin revealed last week that a prequel for the show, called, The Long Night, is in the works. Although the Game of Thrones prequel has received a green light from HBO, production hasn’t started yet.
Game of Thrones season 8 premieres April 14 on HBO.
