Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 finally aired today and it was one of the most ‘feelgood’ episodes in the history of the series. The episode was full of optimism in the shadow of certain death. While there were some controversies about the show, such as it having leaked hours before its original air-time, it was indeed a great episode!
Let us take a closer look at the happenings of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 and discuss everything that happened so far. We must warn you that the text ahead contains spoilers for GoT Season 8 Episode 2.
Jaime Lannister Meets Daenerys and Bran
Jaime Lannister killed the Mad King, who was Daenerys’s father. He had also wronged many members of the Stark family, including Bran Stark: a dark secret only shared between him and Bran. Daenerys, along with Sansa, Bran and Jon questioned if Jaime should be allowed to fight alongside them. Brienne of Tarth came to his defence and he was allowed to stay.
During this encounter on Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2, Bran Stark says “Things we do for love”, the line Jaime used while he pushed a young Bran Stark off the tower in Season 1 of Game of Thrones. Bran and Jaime had another segment together where Bran said there may not be an ‘afterwards’ for them after the war.
Sansa and Daenerys at Odds
Sansa Stark and Daenerys continue to be at odds. Daenerys meets Sansa in a chamber where she talks about the future after the war. Sansa is ok with Daenerys as the Queen of the Iron Throne but can’t accept her as the Queen of Westeros. Their meeting is then interrupted by a returning Theon Greyjoy.
Plan for the Battle
Women, children and people who aren’t a part of the direct combat are asked to remain in the underground crypts, which are considered to be the safest place in Winterfell. Bran Stark volunteered to go out as a ‘bait’ for the Night King, and he would be guarded by Theon Greyjoy as well as Daenerys’s dragons.
Tormund, Tyrion, Brienne, Jaime, Davos Seaworth and Podrick are sitting around a fire and discussing the possibility of imminent death. Tyrion, who has earlier had a conversation with Bran, is hopeful about survival. Jaime anoints Brienne a knight.
The Arya And Gendry Storyline
Arya Stark meets The Hound and Beric Dondarrion. She has a couple of swigs off The Hounds’ drink and heads to meet Gendry, who is making her weapon. Arya Stark and Gendry have had a long storyline which has run for several seasons now. We finally got a payoff here as Arya demands Gendry to have sex with her. The two finally do it in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2.
Jon Tells Daenerys the truth
Jon Snow finally reveals his true name to Daenerys, telling him that he is actually the son of her brother and Lyanna Stark. Daenerys is surprised after this – but the only question she asks is if Jon will now be the true successor to the Iron Throne. However, before Jon could answer the horn sounded thrice and the Night King arrived. This is how Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 ends.
