Gary Sinise has long proven himself to be a remarkable man. Not only is he a tremendously talented actor, but he is also a staunch supporter of our troops, frequently going out of his way to help those in need.
The Hollywood star, who played “Lt. Dan” in Forrest Gump, a Vietnam veteran who lost both legs in the war, has made a name for himself when it comes to giving vets and families of the fallen peace of mind.
He assists where he can, which is all anyone could ask for and far more than most celebrities are willing to do. According to its website, the Gary Sinise Foundation was founded to “serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.”
As a result, it’s no surprise that Sinise is able to assist through the foundation. His charitable activities range from constructing specialized homes for injured veterans to hosting free concerts for soldiers.
He’s done it again, it turns out. According to reports, Sinise’s foundation partnered with American Airlines again last year to offer an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World on the “Snowball Express” for family members of fallen heroes.
Before the pandemic, families from all over the country were flown to Orlando and given an opportunity they would not have had otherwise.
According to the Sinise Foundation’s website, “the holidays can be especially difficult for grieving families.” Every December, we host a five-day experience for over 1,750 fallen children and their surviving parents or guardian. As a therapeutic retreat with a mix of fun and inspiring programs, these families can seek support from their peers.”
According to an American Airlines press release, the operation included families from 87 different U.S. cities flying to Orlando International Airport on 13 different charter flights.
“This event exemplifies the caring nature of the American team,” said David Seymour, America’s Senior Vice President of Operations.
“I’m honored to work with such generous colleagues, not only those who have volunteered their time to fly and serve families in the air, but also those who have spent countless hours coordinating gate-side celebrations in dozens of airports across our system.”
“The Gary Sinise Foundation Snowball Express is a remarkable program that continues to impact Gold Star families, and it is an honor to work with the foundation to honor them.” As a company and as a country, we will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”
My admiration for Gary Sinise knows no bounds. Thank God for people like him in the world, providing veterans and families of the fallen with the assistance and support they require.
