Who Is Mirtha Jung?
Mirtha Jung was born in Cuba on December 3, 1952. She was born as Mirtha Calderon. When she was a little child, her family relocated to the United States. Growing up in the Californian suburbs, it would have been difficult to foresee the chaotic life she would eventually lead. She was raised by her parents in Cuba, where she also attended a nearby high school. She worked as a waitress after graduating from high school until she eventually met and married George Jung.
Mirtha Jung’s Criminal Record
Her involvement in the drug trade with her ex-husband, George Jung, is directly linked to Jung’s profession. In the 1970s and 1980s, they made millions of dollars together by trafficking cocaine in the US. Mirtha’s primary involvement in the drug trade was as George Jung’s associate and partner. She handled the finances and was involved in every facet of the enterprise, including the import and distribution of cocaine. She was reportedly well-known for her extravagant spending patterns and her passion for pricey jewels and apparel.
Even while it’s unclear why Jung became involved in the drug trade, it’s obvious that she played a crucial role in the operation. She co-founded a large network of suppliers and distributors with her ex-husband, which enabled them to smuggle massive amounts of cocaine into the United States. She continued to play a significant role in the operation up to the couple’s final separation and divorce, despite the risks and perils associated with this activity.
In 1987, following the arrest of George Jung, Mirtha was also taken into custody and accused of cocaine trafficking; nevertheless, she managed to reach a plea agreement that resulted in a reduced sentence. Her life has been characterised by battles with addiction and legal troubles since her three-year incarceration and subsequent release.
The life of Mirtha’s husband served as the basis for the 2001 film ‘Blow’. Her fame increased thanks to the film. Spanish model and actor Penélope Cruz played the role of Mirtha, while Johnny Depp played George Jung. Around the time of the movie’s premiere in 2001, Mirtha was last seen in the press. Back then, she also conducted an interview with a newspaper in Texas.
