The match between Gerald Washington vs Robert Helenius was one of the most underappreciated bouts of recent times. Dubbed by many as a match where two ‘underachievers’ are fighting one another, it actually turned out to be a pretty exciting match which ended in Washington knocking out Helenius in Round 8.
While most people considered this an evenly fought match, Helenius was somewhat of a favourite going in, but Washington’s punch got him knocked out cold.
Gerald Washington vs Robert Helenius – What Went Down?
While the contest saw a good back and forth between both the men involved, Washington seemed to be facing the wrath of Helenius for quite a significant portion of the match. However, at about the 2:30 minutes mark in the eighth round, Gerald Washington vs Robert Helenius took an interesting turn as Washington hit his opponent with a long right hand which got him knocked out cold.
This was not a ‘shock’ victory per se as both the men are almost evenly matched, but Helenius was more ‘famous’ as a boxer than compared to the otherwise low-profile Washington.
What’s Next for Washington?
While Gerald Washington vs Robert Helenius ended in a win for Washington, he is likely to remain in this ‘lost in the shuffle’ sort of a mode for quite a while now until he gets a big-money fight. While he remains in the PBC circuits there will be plenty of heavyweight opponents lining up to face him – a future beyond that, however, is rather murky at the moment.
