It’s a sweet story about a loving grandma who has adopted a dog that no one wants.
It all started when Melani Andrews lost her husband and later her dog Lola. After that incident, Andrews was totally devasted and would sit in her house alone all day. It was then her grandkids who visited her and gave her the idea of adopting a dog once again. She says that “My grandkids came over one night, and they said, ‘Grandma, you need somebody to keep you company. You can’t just sit around here all by yourself.”
Once Andrews’ grandkid left her place, she decided to take the matters into her own hands. Thus, she visited the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California. There she asked the volunteer to show her a dog that no one else wants. She said “I don’t care if he’s sick, I don’t care if the shelter can help with bills. I don’t have a lot of money, but I’m sure I have enough to take care of a little dog.”
Then she met a 12-year-old terrier named Jake and she had just fallen in love with him ever since. When Andrews asked a little about Jake, she came to know that he has been in the shelter house for a long time. It is because the cute dog has skin cancer, he is partially blind, and he is deaf. Regardless of knowing everything, Andrews decided to adopt Jake and they both are living happily ever after.
She said that “The way he’s taken a turnaround here, I may end up having him for a year — maybe two if I’m really lucky”. “But when he goes, I’ll know he went happy.”
