Grant Goodeve is an American actor and TV presenter who gained recognition for his portrayal of David Bradford, the oldest son on the popular ABC series Eight Is Enough, which aired from 1977 to 1981. He also lent his voice to the show’s theme song. In recent years, he has made appearances on the Home & Garden Television network.
Early Life
Grant Goodeve was born on July 6, 1952, in Middlebury, Connecticut. He relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1975. He has a sister named Thyrza Nichols Goodeve, who is a writer.
Grant Goodeve’s Career
Grant Goodeve‘s first appearance was in a fifth-season episode of Emergency! In February 1977, he did a test on the show and then started acting in it. He replaced Mark Hamill in a role he had played in the first episode.
After Eight Is Enough concluded in 1981, Goodeve appeared as a guest on various shows including The Love Boat, T. J. Hooker, Dynasty, and Fantasy Island. He also had a role in the TV pilot The Night Watchman in 1983 and hosted the syndicated show Solid Gold Hits in the summer of 1984.
During the 1985-86 season, he portrayed the character Michael James “Woody” Woodward on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. He also had a role in the made-for-TV film Pigs vs. Freaks (also known as Off Sides). He was also a frequent celebrity guest on the Pyramid game shows during the late 1970s and 1980s.
During the late 1980s, he revisited his role from Eight Is Enough in two reunion movies and made multiple appearances in Murder, She Wrote.

In 1989, Grant Goodeve relocated to the Pacific Northwest accompanied by his wife and three children. Shortly after, he secured a recurring part as Rick Pedersen, a doomed bush pilot, on CBS’s Northern Exposure.
Additionally, he started appearing on KING-TV’s Evening Magazine and took on the role of host for the station’s travel program, Northwest Backroads, in 1998. As of 2014, Goodeve had been the host for 16 years.
Between 2000 and 2004, he was the host of two shows called If Walls Could Talk and Homes of Our Heritage on Home & Garden Television. He has also voiced characters in many video games.
He played Wolf O’Donnell in Star Fox: Assault, the Engineer in Team Fortress 2, and different voices for F.E.A.R. He has also contributed his singing talents to Bob Rivers’ Twisted Christmas albums.
In 2006, Grant Goodeve took on the role of George Bailey in Seattle’s Taproot Theatre Company’s rendition of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. He made a comeback to the Taproot stage in 2008, portraying Old Jake in The Christmas Foundling. Additionally, Goodeve can be seen in an Amtrak Cascades safety video.
