Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuji Kaku. From January 2018 through January 2021, Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ app and website offered free weekly updates of the manga, which has 13 tank-bon volumes of collected chapters.
Hell’s Paradise has been adapted into an anime series produced by Mappa.
The story is set in Japan’s Edo Period and tells the story of Ninja Gabimaru and the executioner Yamada Asaemon Sagiri on the search for the elixir of immortality.

Hell’s Paradise Season 1 started airing on April 5, 2023, with just 5 episodes released till now.
In the first three episodes, the show establishes its premise and introduces the main characters. Gabimaru is a skilled assassin with a superhuman body. Since his wife was taken away from him and held captive, Gabimaru has to complete the mission on Kotaku island and find the Elixir of life.
He is promised full forgiveness and government protection for his wife if he successfully completes his life-threatening quest to obtain the Elixir of Life. As a sword-tester and executioner for Yamada Asaemon, Sagiri joins Gabimaru but initially struggles with her dread and unwillingness to kill. Together, they proceed to Shinsenkyo, where they are immediately attacked by other death row convicts who were brought there for the same purpose.
Gabimaru’s fighting skills, as well as his emotional struggle over his commitment to his wife, are what we see in the initial episodes. We also see Sagiri confront her apprehensions and accept responsibility for the killings. The dangers Gabimaru and Sagiri will encounter in future episodes are hinted at by the strange animals and monsters they encounter as the season goes on.
Hell’s Paradise Season 2: Release Date
As of now, Mappa hasn’t officially confirmed anything about the release of Season 2, as Season 1 itself has released very few episodes. However, according to the reviews on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, we can definitely expect the continuation of Season 2 with all the same characters returning from the previous season, as Season 1 has successfully captured the attention of the viewers with its intriguing initial episodes.
Hell’s Paradise is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The next episode will be released soon on Saturday, May 6th, 2023.
