Henry Cavill’s Harrowing Day on “The Witcher” Set
Hollywood’s elite are no strangers to the intense emotions and pressures that come with life under the spotlight. Henry Cavill, widely recognized for his iconic role as Superman, and more recently as the rugged Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s “The Witcher”, recently shared an intimate insight into a day on set that pushed him to his emotional limits.

It was at WitcherCon where Cavill divulged details of an incident from “The Witcher” season 1 shoot that he described as one of the “worst days of his life”. As reported by Slash Films, fans were hanging onto his every word as he narrated the story of his beloved dog, Kal.
The dog had been Cavill’s trailer companion that fateful day. In a fleeting moment, Kal escaped the confines of the trailer and encountered a perilous set of metal stairs. The result? An injury that left the actor devastated.
“Kal ended up tripping on these metal stairs outside,” Henry recounted, his voice laden with emotion. “He hurt himself pretty badly.”
But before Cavill could attend to his injured companion, duty called. He was whisked away for filming, entrusting Kal’s care to his assistant, Leah Gyimah. A call from her later, informing him of a necessary surgical procedure to remove Kal’s nail, compounded his anguish. The vet’s cautionary note that “dogs going under anesthesia might not always wake up” only heightened the actor’s anxiety.
Emotional Filming of The Selkiemore Scene
On the set, as Cavill’s character Geralt grappled with a mythical creature in the Selkiemore scene, off-camera, the actor’s thoughts were consumed by concern for Kal. He admitted,
“That day of filming was a particularly rough moment. All I could think about was Kal and his injured paw.”
His profound connection with Kal was palpable, not just in his words but in the performance itself. Fans of “The Witcher” will remember the scene for its raw emotion, but the backdrop of Cavill’s real-life turmoil adds an extra layer of depth to his portrayal.
A Silver Lining
Fortunately, the story has a happy ending. Kal recovered well after his ordeal, and his antics continue to melt hearts on Cavill’s Instagram feed. The actor even introduced another furry friend named Baggins to his fans.
Yet, the shadow of Cavill’s departure from “The Witcher” after its third season lingers. As fans eagerly await the show’s fourth installment, slated for a 2024 release, there’s a bittersweet realization that Geralt’s journey, at least with Cavill at the helm, has come to an end.
