Cavill’s New Avatar: A Reality-Bending Spy
Henry Cavill, whom we’ve seen save the world as the Man of Steel and battle mythical creatures as Geralt of Rivia, is now stepping into a set of suave spy shoes. No, it’s not James Bond, but it’s something equally exciting. Cavill is the face of a fresh franchise by Apple, helmed by Matthew Vaughn, with a production price tag of a staggering $200 million.
“The movie starts a brand new spy franchise for the company and is the first in the planned trilogy,” according to Deadline.
Inside the Mind-Bending Plot
Marketed as a “razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller,” this upcoming gem is called “Argylle.” The narrative plays with reality, tangling the life of reclusive novelist Elly Conway and her fictional world. Her stories revolve around secret agent Argylle, who is determined to expose a global spy syndicate.
“However, things take a turn when her story parallels the covert actions of a real-life spy organization that comes behind her,” the synopsis states.
In a twist you couldn’t make up, Elly, an avid cat lover, finds herself accompanied by Aiden, a spy who’s allergic to cats! This odd couple goes on the run, dodging bullets and weaving in and out of international intrigue.
The Star-Studded Lineup
It’s not just Cavill who’s pulling out all the stops in this movie. Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly, while Sam Rockwell is Aiden, the cat-averse spy. And for all you music lovers, pop icon Dua Lipa makes her big-screen debut as a femme fatale. Let’s not forget the comic relief in the form of Catherine O’Hara, who will be portraying Elly’s mother.
“Further rounding off the cast are Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Sofia Boutella, Rob Delaney, and Jing Lusi,” adds the casting note.
The feline star, Alfie, in real life, is Vaughn’s own cat, Chip.

This whole thing still feels UNREAL. Thank you to Matthew Vaughn for taking the characters in my head and turning it into so much more! I hope everyone loves this as much as I do! #Argylle https://t.co/5ncgiX66y4

What’s in the Trailer?
Apple has stirred the pot with a full-length trailer set to a remix of Elvis Presley‘s “Suspicious Minds.” It’s jam-packed with the genre’s beloved tropes but teases a significant twist that involves the bookish Elly going rogue.
“Once you know the secret, don’t let the cat out of the bag,” warns the trailer.
Ready, Set, Stream (But First, Theaters!)
What’s unique about this release is that Apple is partnering with Universal for a short theatrical release before moving it to streaming platforms. Pencil in the date: February 2, 2024.
