Luffy’s Gears in One Piece has always been super exciting for fans to see. With Gear 5 making its debut in episode 1071, Luffy’s Gear 6 is not that far away from becoming a reality. One Piece is now nearing its final arc, with the manga expected to finish sometime between 2024 and 2025. This means there will be much stronger enemies to fight in the future of the Straw Hat Pirates; therefore, Luffy’s Gear 6 is only an expected reality.
When will we see Luffy’s Gear 6?
Luffy’s Gear 5 made its manga debut in March last year, and its anime debut was in August 2023 in episode 1071. Fans were super excited to see their favourite character’s complete potential being animated. Luffy could not only stretch like rubber but was also super strong in his Gear 5 form, reaching almost God-like power.

The twist in the episode was the revelation of Luffy’s actual devil fruit, Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and not Gomu Gomu no Mi. This makes Luffy one of the most robust characters in One Piece so far. This is not all good news; being one of the strongest could mean no one can give Luffy a good fight in the future, especially in his Gear 5 form. However, with the final arc of One Piece nearing, Luffy will have to fight foes much stronger than Kaido, such as Imu and other members of the world government. Gear 6 might not be far from reality.

What will Luffy’s Gear 6 be like?
In the One Piece series, the World Government is a major political organization that governs most of the world. It is formed by the collaboration of several powerful nations and is considered the highest authority in the story’s world.
The World Government is portrayed throughout the series as corrupt and morally ambiguous. They are supported by the Navy, also known as the Marines, which serves as their military force to maintain order and suppress any threats to their rule.
There could also be a possibility that Gear 5 isn’t enough to fight them. Luffy’s Gear 6 could be unlocked while fighting members of the world government in the final war or maybe when fighting Imu, the top authority in the One Piece universe. In his Gear 5 form, Luffy is super strong, with God-like speed, durability, and strength. It makes him look very similar to the gods in One Piece, with white hair and red eyes.

If Luffy’s Gear 6 is unlocked, then this could mean Luffy could be much stronger and very similar to the Sun God Nika. Since his devil fruit is connected to the Sun God, his abilities might also be enhanced accordingly. Nika’s existence can only be found in the old documents, which were erased in the modern ones. The world government is also trying to find the devil fruit associated with the god, Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, for over 800 years and has been covering up its identity so no other party can go after it.
All this secrecy from the government while they are trying to procure this power could only mean one thing: Nika might have been the most powerful god in existence, and the devil fruit having his power could make the world government invincible.
Unfortunately for them, Luffy already ate the fruit, which means there will be much more potential for him to be unlocked soon, and gear 5 was the beginning. Although nothing major has been revealed yet, we may see Luffy’s Gear 6 as we progress in the One Piece manga and anime in the future.
