A Star on the Rise: Margot Robbie’s Audition for “American Horror Story”
It’s not every day that a casting director witnesses the birth of a star. For Eric Dawson, who’s worked closely with “American Horror Story” (AHS) creator Ryan Murphy for over two decades, Margot Robbie’s audition stands out as one of those rare moments.
Back in 2012, the FX show was gearing up for its second season. This season saw renowned personalities like Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and “Step Up” sensation Jenna Dewan grace the screen. But another significant name, Margot Robbie, almost made it to the cast list.
Talking about Robbie’s audition, Dawson nostalgically recalls, “Margot is probably one of my favorite auditions of all time.” He went on to shed light on the timing of her audition, which was poised “right before she broke out” with the iconic “The Wolf of Wall Street” in 2013.
Robbie’s undeniable presence was palpable from the moment she stepped into the room. “She was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room,” Dawson remembered. He knew he had encountered someone extraordinary. Despite Robbie not securing the role, Dawson felt the urge to work with her, expressing, “This is a star, what do we do with her?”
However, the details behind Robbie missing out on the role remain unclear, as Dawson mentioned she was “out of our realm of possibility of hiring.” Yet, watching Robbie’s meteoric rise in Hollywood has been a treat for the casting director, who sees such moments as the “fun part” of his job.
“American Horror Story” Continues to Shock and Awe
Fast forward to today, Margot Robbie’s career trajectory has been nothing short of stellar with two Oscar nominations and her current role in “Barbie” turning heads. Meanwhile, Ryan Murphy has not slowed down, churning out 10 more captivating seasons of AHS since the “Asylum” season.
Fans of AHS have much to anticipate with Season 12 titled “AHS: Delicate” due for release next month. The latest iteration of this anthological horror series brings together Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne alongside AHS veteran Emma Roberts. Drawing inspiration from Danielle Valentine’s novel “Delicate Condition,” the upcoming season promises a gripping narrative surrounding a woman’s unnerving pregnancy journey.
A chilling teaser was released recently, showing the three leading ladies donning haunting outfits, complete with spider web motifs, as a sinister rendition of “Rock-A-Bye-Baby” sends shivers down the spine.
For those eager to refresh their memory or dive into the eerie world of AHS, all past seasons are readily available on Amazon Prime Video. With the premiere of “American Horror Story: Delicate“ slated for Sept. 20 on FX, the excitement is palpable among fans and newcomers alike.
