It was reported by people who know for sure that… Marlon Wayans found out that his father, Howell Wayans, had died while he was doing stand-up comedy in Burbank, California, at a club called Flappers. He was there for two shows.
It was said that Marlon was told after his first show that night, and then he went on to perform his second show, where our sources say he worked the tragedy into his set, making it a very emotional one in which he already talked about his mother’s death.

Sources say that Marlon saved the big news about his father until the end of his show. This was after he had talked a lot about his family as a Wayan. He said it at the end, mentioning that his father had just died three hours before… He too wept.
It was reported that the crowd gave him a standing ovation, and some people in the crowd shed tears. Also, his show at 9:30 p.m. was a little late, and now we know why.
Howell Wayans, the head of the Wayans family, has died. His children are paying homage to him.
In a touching post on Saturday, Marlon Wayans said that the sad news was true. He posted a picture of himself and Howell Wayans together, and Howell was kissing his son on the head. Marlon says,
Legend. When i was a child I asked my Dad what did you want to be when grew up? He simply said ‘I wanted to be a man’ I said ‘not a lawyer? A doctor? An actor?’ He said ‘just a man.’
He went on to talk about how Howell Wayans had said that not everyone grows up to be a man. He went into more detail about what it takes to become a man. including taking care of one’s family and the responsibilities that come along. Marlon says that his conversation with Howell Wayans made him want to be that.
Marlon had more to say about his father’s death. He said,
Thank you Pop for being an example of a Man to all your boys. I pray all young black boys can grow up to be a Man like you. Baby boy loves you. And if ever i need you i know exactly where to find you… in my Bible that now sits by bed. Rest well. Kiss Ma for me. Tell her her babies miss her.
A famous actor who knew the family, Omar Epps, also sent his condolences. He said that Howell Wayans was like a second father to him and that he took him in as one of his own.
Howell Wayans and his late wife, Elvira, raised 10 children in New York City. Elvira died three years ago. Among them are a few who went on to have huge success in show business. They are Marlon, Shawn, Damon, Kim, and Keenen. Almost all of the siblings have been involved in the entertainment industry in some way. All of them have had successful careers on their own.
Howell Wayans’ friends and family have said that he was strict and worked hard. They also say that he taught all of his kids some important morals and values. He encouraged them in their plans to do comedy, acting, and writing. And it worked because the Wayans are now well known.
His children and many grandchildren will carry on after him. Howell was 86 years old.
