Dennis Rodman has been defined as “arguably the best defending forward in NBA history” on the official NBA website. “Dennis the Menace” began his NBA career in October 1986 at the age of 25 and had a memorable career run for 14 years. He revealed that even after four years playing for Detroit Pistons, he still couldn’t beat his sisters.
Dennis Rodman Talks About His Sisters Beating Him In Basketball
As per an archive on the United Press International website, Rodman revealed how he couldn’t beat his sisters in basketball even after he was drafted by Detroit Pistons. He explained that his sisters served as a motivation for him to get better at the game. Rodman stated that he was a lazy man before joining he was drafted by the Pistons.
“If you could only have been with me four years ago, you would have seen the kind of person I was. I was kind of lazy. I figured I’d just work or do something.”
Rodman’s sister Debra was 6 Foot 3 inches and played for Louisana Tech before starting her professional career with Dallas Diamonds. She eventually started to play overseas. Her other sister Kim was 6 foot 1 inch tall and played for Stephen F. Austin. Rodman said how his sisters would beat him and his friend so easily.
“I couldn’t beat them. They’d take me and a friend of mine out and beat us all the time.”
“I finally decided one day if they could do it, I could do it.”
The motivation clearly worked in favour of “The Worm” as he went onto have an illustrious NBA career playing for well-known teams.
Dennis Rodman Career
Dennis Rodman began his NBA career in 1986 with the Detroit Pistons where he played until 1993. He was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice in 1990 and 1993. After leaving the Pistons in 1993, “The Worm” joined the San Antonio Spurs until 1995. He then played for two years at Chicago Bulls until 1997. Rodman also published a memoir titled “Bad As I Wanna Be” in 1996.
He played 23 games for Los Angeles Lakers in 1999 and 12 games for Dallas Mavericks in 2000. Throughout his career, Dennis Rodman won five NBA Championships (1988-1989, 1989-1990 with Detroit Pistons and 1995-1996, 1996-1997, 1997-1998 with Chicago Bulls). In 2011, Rodman was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
While Dennis Rodman had a glorious NBA career, he had his fair share of controversies as well. The Hall of Fame player ran into legal troubles multiple times during and after his career.
