Dana White’s Reaction to Pantoja vs Moreno UFC 290
Mexican UFC Flyweight star, Brandon Moreno came face-to-face with Brazilian fighter Alexandre Pantoja on July 8, 2023, for a Flyweight title match. Moreno who was defending his championship faced a defeat from his former foe Pantoja in a split decision win. UFC President Dana White was ecstatic with the gripping title match and shared his thoughts about the two fighters’ performance. When asked if there’s a potential for a rematch between Pantoja and Moreno, White responded-
“I don’t think there’s anyone on earth who wouldn’t want to see that fight again. It was so good and so close.”
MMA reporter for TSN Sports, Aaron Bronsteter reported that Dana White agreed that Moreno vs Pantoja was “the fight of the year.”
“White agrees that Moreno vs. Pantoja was one of the fights of the year and that when Mexican-born fighters compete that the energy in the building is always great.”
White also revealed that the Fight of the Night bonus was given to Moreno vs Pantoja instead of Hooker vs Turner’s fight. Aaron Bronsteter reported-
“White says that there was a debate about giving Hooker vs. Turner a Fight of the Night bonus and that they settled on Moreno/Pantoja because the stakes were so high.”
Interestingly, this was Alexandre Pantoja’s first UFC title match and he did not disappoint. It was also his fourth win in UFC. Pnatoja won the Flyweight title with a 48-47 score given by judges Derek Cleary and Junichiro Kamijo, whereas judge Ben Cartlidge scored 49-46 in favour of Moreno. Pantoja now was two pro victories over Moreno and 3 if you count “The Ultimate Fighter” match where Pantoja won over Moreno by submission.
