Following the rising cases of COVID BF.7 Omicron variant, there have been doubts regarding a lockdown in 2023 once again.
COVID 19 was first discovered back in China in 2019. The virus spread worldwide, causing significant lockdowns and millions of deaths between 2020 and 2022. There may be a lockdown too this year if the cases keep rising at the same pace. After the Chinese government lifted the harsh COVID restrictions in China, the cases have increased. The Chinese authorities have not yet determined the confirmed death toll.
COVID Lockdown 2023 in the USA
On December 31, a Biden administration official said that the country would prolong the COVID-19 pandemic’s designation as a public health emergency until January, allowing millions of Americans to continue receiving free testing, vaccinations, and medical care.
The official added that the decision was influenced by the potential for a spike in COVID Omicron cases throughout the winter and the necessity for more time to move from the public health emergency to the private market.
Since the coronavirus pandemic’s first declaration in January 2020, the public health emergency has been periodically extended. However, the government indicated in August that it planned to let it expire in January.
Measures citizens can take to protect themselves.
People faced many hardships during the first wave of COVID in 2020. The lack of expertise in the disease and how to prevent it has caused many deaths and struggles. The world had shut down for months as nations went on strict lockdowns. This has helped doctors, scientists, and governments gain considerable experience dealing with COVID. New variants are being discovered, but the threat seems negligible. Most humans have developed immunity to the virus due to help from vaccinations. Here are a few things to keep in mind to avoid being infected and by extension, prevent a lockdown in 2023:
- If you have flu, cold, or high fever symptoms, avoid gatherings and isolate yourself until you recover.
- Wear a mask when in public or at a large gathering.
- Get a booster shot at your nearest hospital or clinic.
- Avoid eating street food or at busy places till the government announces that there is no imminent threat.
