Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are down currently experiencing a global outage for reasons that are best known to only Mark Zuckerburg. Several users have now taken it to Twitter and are of the opinion that maybe the social media giant was the victim of a massive hack attack.
Facebook, Instagram users having issues logging in
According to reports, most Facebook and Instagram users are currently experiencing issues with logging in. While some are greeted with a ‘down for maintenance’ error message, a select few have also encountered the infamous ‘Account Temporarily Unavailable’ message.
“Facebook is down for required maintenance right now, but you should be able to get back on within a few minutes. In the meantime, read more about why you’re seeing this message. Thanks for your patience as we improve the site.”
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp users who were somehow able to log in their accounts, only managed to gain limited access to the services offered by the trio of services. For instance, Facebook users are currently unable to post and upload status/videos, delete comments, change profile picture, among other things. Whereas WhatsApp and Instagram users are having issues sending voice notes, messages not being sent, uploading new stories and more.
“Something’s gone wrong. We’re working to get it fixed as soon as we can.”
Is Facebook hacked? Why is FB, Instagram and WhatsApp down?
We're focused on working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, but can confirm that the issue is not related to a DDoS attack.

Even though it has been confirmed that this outage is not caused by a hack or a DDOS attack, tech pundits believe that this might be a case of a classic case of “update gone wrong”. Based on the fact that Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users can see posts and statuses before the downtime just fine, an educated guess from our side would be that Facebook somehow “broke” their database and is currently only in “read-only” mode. It remains to be seen what reason does Facebook comes up with in its official press release.
As of writing this, thousands of Tweets have already been made with hashtags like #WhatsAppDow, #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown.

When will the downtime end? When will Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp be fixed?
Unfortunately, the tech giant hasn’t given a timeline as to when can Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp users can expect the services to go live as usual. However, for what it is worth, given that the downtime has already been going for 6 hours now, it should be a matter of only an hour or two before Facebook’s hardworking engineers sort this mess out.
If the services are not up by the mentioned ETA, there may be something more to the story than meets the eye, which could point towards a possible hack or security breach.
@instagram team mentioned: “We’re aware of an issue impacting people’s access to Instagram right now. We know this is frustrating, and our team is hard at work to resolve this ASAP.”
