Amidst the controversy surrounding Mappa’s inhumane treatment of its employees, Mappa seems to be in deep water yet again. It was rumored that Mappa had bagged the rights for One Punch Man Season 3, and everything was going well until the allegations against Mappa started spreading like wildfire. It’s been over a year since we last got the update on One Punch Man Season 3 going to Mappa Studios. So, what’s in store for One Punch Man Season 3?
The Controversy Surrounding Mappa
Mappa Studios has acquired the rights to popular manga series such as Attack On Titan, Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen, Vinland Saga, and many more. Despite all of the controversy surrounding Mappa, the animators have undeniably created some outstanding animations, particularly the finale of Attack On Titan. But, in the end, they are human beings designed to make mistakes.
This time, the “err” was evident since the most recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen aired unfinished. The animators were dissatisfied and frustrated with their final product. A few animators have even come out to state that they were able to finish the episode at the last minute, only hours before it aired.
“I worked on those cuts until yesterday…I wished I was faster and could have done a better job…thank you for the kind messages…”
-@NobiliRoccia (One of the animators of Episode 17)
The blame is pushed on the CEO of Mappa, Manabu Otsuka, who has been taking project after project and making the animators work simultaneously on each of them, eventually leading to a drop in animation quality. Many animators who have worked with Jujutsu Kaisen had to work on Chainsaw Man Season 1, released in October 2022. These same animators again had to work on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, released on July 2023, meaning they roughly had six months to finish the project.
One Punch Man Season 3 May Get Delayed For A Few More Months
Mappa Studios is a young animation company founded in 2011, and since then has remained unstoppable. The studio is well known in the animation industry for making high-quality anime, and they have undoubtedly been successful for a long time. One Punch Man Season 3 was supposed to be developed by Mappa Studios, and it has been almost a year since this news update. Given the current state of issues, it appears clear that fans will have to wait a few more months for another update on One Punch Man Season 3.
The series of meltdowns these animators have been having shows that they are in dire need of a break. The animators have previously voiced their dissatisfaction with their workplace’s terrible working conditions, and there are clues that they aren’t going to put up with this treatment any longer. So, if the animators are given a much-needed break, which they fully deserve, One Punch Man Season 3 will have to wait. This is undoubtedly a positive development for both audiences and animators, as neither wants to see the quality of their favorite series deteriorate further.
Mappa Studios is not the only company that treats its employees poorly. Overworking people and paying them inadequate wages has been standard practice in this business. The overworked and underpaid animators are the driving force behind this glorified industry, bringing constant joy to the audience. Considering that animators are now at last advocating for their rights, it’s time to stop justifying this appalling treatment of staff members.
