Tom Cruise is Back in Action Amid Production Pauses and Strikes
Filming Status Unveiled
The Mission: Impossible saga is far from over, and Tom Cruise is once again buckling up to bring Ethan Hunt to life. The much-anticipated sequel, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” started filming in March 2022. However, a recent SAG-AFTRA strike put a halt to the production this past July. With the release date set for June 28, 2024, the big question is: Will the film make it in time? An update from The Wrap assures us that 40% of the sequel was captured before the strike. So, there’s still hope.
“The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two release date is scheduled for June 28, 2024, though the actor’s strike has put that date in doubt.”
The Tale of Two Parts
The previous installment, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” hit theaters in July 2023 and kept us at the edge of our seats. It looks like the excitement is not going to dip anytime soon, as Ethan Hunt has more life-or-death scenarios to navigate. Franchise director Christopher McQuarrie initially planned to film both the seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible movies back-to-back, but that idea eventually got shelved.
“Franchise director Christopher McQuarrie originally intended to shoot Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 back-to-back, though that plan was eventually scrapped.”
Around the World in… Many Scenes
What makes a Mission: Impossible movie unique? The breathtaking, globe-trotting locations. “Dead Reckoning Part Two” began its principal photography in the UK before jetting off to Italy, where scenes were filmed aboard the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier. Set photos also reveal Cruise doing what he does best: daring aerial stunts, including riding upside down on the wing of an airplane. Yep, you read that right.
Who’s Who in the Crew
Of course, what’s a Mission: Impossible film without its ensemble cast? Returning to their roles are franchise regulars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff. Making their Mission debut are Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, and Holt McCallany. The sequel’s filming had two major pauses; one due to the strike and another to accommodate Cruise’s global press tour for Part One.
“The Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two cast should see many of the franchise’s stars returning to reprise their roles.”
The Mission is Still Possible
While the SAG-AFTRA strike has thrown a wrench in the plans, the production team seems confident about meeting the summer 2024 release date. So buckle up, Mission: Impossible fans; it looks like Ethan Hunt will be back to save the world on time, provided the ongoing strike wraps up soon.
