Detroit Pistons’ guard Jaden Ivey is likely to get acquired by the San Antonio Spurs this offseason. The NBA’s lottery system provides an opportunity for weak teams to land a quality player. This season, the Spurs exploited the system and tanked enough to land Victor Wembanyama, who is considered a generational talent and the future of the NBA. The Spurs have two options from here: they can either build around him, or they can keep tanking to land another star.
The Purdue Boilermakers product played 74 games for the Pistons last season and averaged 16.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 34.3 percent from beyond the arc. The player has been great, but the Pistons have pushed him to the bench. Can the Spurs hop on to the opportunity and land the 21-year-old? Here is all the information you need about the trade between the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons involving Jaden Ivey.
What would the Spurs offer for Jaden Ivey?
The Spurs are expected to offer Cedi Osman and one first-round pick each from the years 2025 and 2027 in exchange for the Pistons’ #23. The Spurs would not mind giving up on their draft pick since they have already landed a star.
Asked Pistons guard Jaden Ivey about the difference in his approach as a starter vs. coming off the bench:
“I’m still gon’ be JI. Yall still gon see the same JI out there regardless if I come off the bench or start or if I’m playing a certain amount of minutes…” pic.twitter.com/b2UMvhkmGY

Why would the Spurs like to sign Jaden Ivey?
The youngster is a great ball handler and has got great pace as well. He can burst through defense and be a prolific scorer if mentored well. The Spurs have their franchise player already, and if they manage to land a point guard like Ivey along with few other decent players, they can make a run to the title as well.
During yesterday’s practice I was able to ask coach Monty Williams about his assessment of Jaden Ivey and his “new role” so far through preseason.

Why would the Pistons trade-off Jaden Ivey?
The Pistons experimented last season by benching Ivey and it looks he is not that great fit for them. He is bringing two draft picks along with a player here, and the Pistons, who are going through a rebuild, would fancy doing this deal.
Will Victor help the Spurs get their hands on a title? How will the Pistons line up next season? We’ll keep you updated.
