Early Life & Career
In 1998, The Roots discovered Jaguar Wright, and she joined them on tour. Then, in 2001, she performed as a background vocalist for Jay-Z on MTV Unplugged and was also featured in a Coca-Cola commercial as part of their “Nu Soul” promotion.
As of now, she has put out two individual albums: Denials Delusions and Decisions in 2002, and Divorcing Neo 2 Marry Soul in 2005.
Jaguar Wright also completed an album called …And Your Point Is? that was set to come out in 2003 on MCA Records. Unfortunately, the company went out of business.
Many of the songs recorded for that album eventually made it onto Divorcing Neo 2 Marry Soul, which entered the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at number 62 in July 2005.
In March 2008, she toured Europe with Bahamadia and Hezekiah for the “Philly Sounds” tour. Wright did not perform any new material on the tour, but did live cover versions of Cherrelle’s “Saturday Love” and Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)”.
While on the tour, Wright revealed that she was currently writing a novel and also busy with her third album. However, no official dates have been announced for the release of either project. Vibe said in February 2010 that her third album, 3D, was originally planned to be a five-song digital EP.
But now it will be a full album that will be released in the summer. The first single from the album, “Beautiful”, was released in the autumn of 2009.
In 2019, Jaguar Wright published her 5-track EP called “Lost” on Bandcamp. The following year, Wright gained attention on social media for addressing her music career direction, conflicts with former members of the Roots, and complaints about artists like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Mary J. Blige.
She also spoke out about her ex-boyfriend Common allegedly sexually assaulting her after a concert in the mid-2000s.
In 2020, Jaguar gained attention on social media due to controversies surrounding her professional endeavors and conflicts with multiple members of The Roots.
Furthermore, she made strong allegations against various musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Common, Jill Scott, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z. In 2024, she accused P. Diddy of being a predatory figure with multiple victims connected to him.
