Jake Gyllenhaal, the Spider-Man: Far From Home actor, has stated he’s ‘fortunate’ to have had false cinematic s*x with Anne Hathaway twice.
Jake Gyllenhaal commended Hathaway’s ‘rhythm’ in the s*xual sequences, which is certainly a slightly strange compliment.
Both films in which they co-starred featured them as lovers.
They worked together for the first time on Ang Lee’s groundbreaking 2005 picture Brokeback Mountain.
Jake Gyllenhaal portrayed openly gay cowboy Jack Twist, and Hathaway portrayed his wife, Lureen Newsome.
With his heart set on Heath Ledger’s Ennis Del Mar, Jack’s character didn’t connect with Hathaway’s, despite having a s*x scene.
This was set to alter in Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2010 film Love & Other Drugs, in which he played Jamie Randall, a smarmy Pfizer salesman whose life is revolutionized when he meets Hathaway’s Maggie Murdock, who has early-onset Parkinson’s.
While the film was not universally adored (it received only 49 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), critics praised Jake Gyllenhaal and Hathaway’s electric chemistry.
According to one critic, the picture ‘lacks a certain something, but not chemistry between Jake and Anne; they set off actual sparks’.
Behind the scenes, Jake Gyllenhaal stated that he felt at ease playing love scenes with Hathaway after previously working with her on similar bedroom scenes.
During the Love and Other Drugs press tour, he said, “I’m lucky. I wasn’t too worried because Annie and I had already had s*x on film in Brokeback Mountain.
“There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical.
“It’s all about rhythm. There’s a rhythm to writing, there’s a rhythm to sports and there’s a rhythm to s*x.
“I recommend getting in bed with Anne Hathaway to any man.”
Hathaway, for her part, recalled on the press tour for the film how one of her ‘favourite memories’ from shooting involved her getting ‘unnecessarily naked’ in front of other cast and crew.
“We’d been shooting for a few hours, the ice was broken, and everything was fine. We were just back from lunch, and I’d gone behind the set and was talking to someone,” Hathaway recalled of a scene in which Maggie arrives at James’ flat and accidentally exposes herself to his flatmate.

“Then all of a sudden someone whispers ‘Annie you’re on!’ and I think because they were whispering I thought we were shooting, so I ran in and dropped [my coat] and I’m just standing there and I see Jake kind of freeze and go ‘huh?’ and I realise the camera is in a different place and we’re still rehearsing and that I got naked unnecessarily in front of everyone!
“So then I pulled my trench coat on very quickly and it was obviously a case of life imitating art!”
