Gunn Advises Fans to Avoid Social Media Spoilers
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer/director James Gunn has advised fans to be cautious about spoilers for the upcoming movie on social media sites starting at the end of April. However, he also stated on Twitter that spoilers wouldn’t necessarily ruin the movie-watching experience.
“That said, I don’t think your enjoyment of the film will be diminished much by knowing them,” he added.
Vol. 3 Will Be the Final Film in the Guardians Series
Gunn, who has helmed all three Guardians films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has previously stated that Vol. 3 will be the final film in this series. In January 2022, he stated that the movie would be “the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians.” Additionally, Gunn has promised that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will subvert audience expectations and strike a darker tone than its predecessors.
Vol. 3 Will Conclude Rocket Raccoon’s Story
Rocket Racoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, will be at the center of the upcoming film. The newly-released synopsis for Vol. 3 reveals that Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord “must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life.” Failure to succeed could mean the “end of the Guardians as we know them.”
Gunn has previously said that Rocket is the “secret protagonist of the Guardians movies” and that Vol. 3 will wrap up the character’s story arc.
“I think he exemplifies a lot of the traits of all the Guardians. They’ve had all these traumas, and it brings them together. I just think that his [trauma] is more extreme than others,” Gunn explained.
Vol. 3 Is a “Masterpiece,” Says Chris Pratt
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially wrapped filming in May 2022. Chris Pratt, who has starred as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in all three Guardians films, described the third volume as a “masterpiece” in previous interviews. “He said it’s the best work all of us have ever done. He feels very, very confident. The script was amazing,” Pratt said. “I can say with utter confidence that [Gunn has] made a true masterpiece, and I just cannot wait for people to see it. It’s James Gunn. He did all three movies, which is really rare and really special in the world of big box-office trilogies.”
The Return of Familiar Faces
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also see the return of Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Vin Diesel as Groot. The highly-anticipated film is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
“It might be wise to be careful what you’re reading on social networking sites starting at the end of April if you want to avoid spoilers for [Vol. 3]. That said, I don’t think your enjoyment of the film will be diminished much by knowing them.” – James Gunn
