Celebrities have just as much trouble as the rest of us. Most of the time, they do a good job of hiding their problems from the public. We might not find out for years, if ever, that a celebrity has been sick, struggles with addiction, or has had any kind of personal setback. Jamie Lee Curtis is one of these stars who tried to hide the fact that she had problems with drugs. She has been sober for more than 20 years, and in the last few years, she has started to talk about her journey.
Jamie Lee Curtis hid her addiction to painkillers for almost a decade.
A source says that the star of “Halloween” first became addicted to opioids in 1989 after getting a prescription after having plastic surgery. Jamie Lee Curtis was addicted to pills, but she was able to hide it for years by stealing them from her friends and family. After Curtis tried to steal pills from her, her sister found out that she was addicted.
In 1999, the star started her journey to get sober. In February of that year, she went to her first recovery meeting. She still goes to meetings every week. In recent years, Jamie Lee Curtis has become a mentor for people who are having trouble staying sober.
In 2021, Jamie Lee Curtis made an Instagram post to mark 22 years sober.
Jamie Lee Curtis posted a picture of herself on Instagram with a drink in her hand. The caption reads,
A LONG time ago… In a galaxy far, far away… I was a young STAR at WAR with herself. I didn’t know it then. I chased everything. I kept it hidden. I was a sick as my secrets.
With God’s grace and the support of MANY people who could relate to all the ‘feelings’ and a couple of sober angels…I’ve been able to stay sober, one day at a time, for 22 years.
Curtis now thinks that being sober is a legacy.
Curtis’s important legacy is that she will be able to stay sober for the rest of her life.
Because I’m stopping what has been a generational issue in my biological family. It’ll be the single greatest thing I do, if I can stay sober. Because generations of people have had their lives ruled and ruined by alcoholism and drug addiction.
Curtis’s family has a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Tony Curtis, Curtis’s father, had problems with drugs like alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. Nicholas Curtis, her half-brother, also had a hard time with heroin. In 1994, he died from taking too much medicine.
Jamie Lee Curtis was happy and proud that she had been able to break a cycle that had been hurting her family for years.
