As she accepted her 2023 SAG Award, Jamie Lee Curtis said things that moved everyone. The 64-year-old actress got emotional and then gave a speech that was full of good things. But the star honored her late mother and father the most. Without them, she wouldn’t be the person she is today.
Jamie Lee Curtis won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her role in the movie Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
Jamie Lee Curtis was shocked when her name was called out, so she kissed her co-star Michelle Yeoh on the lips and walked toward the stage. When she got there, she was so moved that she said, “Come on!” in response to the standing ovation she got.
Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, who were both actors, gave their daughter a lot of artistic talent.
Even though she lost both of her parents—her mother in 2004 and her father in 2010 — Jamie Lee Curtis made sure to honor them and pay special tribute to their careers as artists who helped pave the way in Hollywood.
The star was moved to tears and broke down in tears as she said,
I’m wearing the wedding ring that my father gave my mother.
Jamie Lee Curtis said that her father was from Hungary and that her mother was from Denmark.
They had nothing, and they became these monstrous stars in this industry.
During her speech, the 64-year-old woman talked about how both of her parents were actors. She also talked about how much she loves and is thankful for her job. She continued noting,
I love actors. I love acting. I love the job we get to do. I love being a part of a crew. I love being part of a cast. I love what we do with each other. It’s such a beautiful job.
Curtis also talked about how hard it is to work in this field, saying that many actors don’t get jobs and spend their nights wondering,
Is that ever going to be possible for me?
Jamie Lee Curtis then said how proud she was to have made it.
’I’m 64 years old and this is just amazing!
The star then talked about how much she liked her co-star, actress Michelle Yeoh, who is 60 years old. She said that she took the part just to work with Yeoh.
At the end of her speech, Jamie Lee said,
What a dream…
Curtis told reporters after the ceremony that she wore her mom’s wedding ring because she wanted to “bring” her parents to the wedding. She noted,
This morning, I was grabbing my jewels to put on for tonight, and I saw it in a little box, and I thought about my parents, and I wouldn’t be here without them.
The actress who won an award must have had good luck with this ring, and we’re sure that her parents would’ve been very proud of her success.
