American columnist and podcast host, Jason Whitlock called out Michael Oher for his lawsuit claim against the Touhy family. Whitlock bashed Oher for suing the Tuohy family for falsely claiming that he wasn’t adopted by the family and was instead under a conservatorship.
What Is Michael Oher’s Lawsuit About?
Earlier this month, Oher filed a 14-page-long lawsuit claim which stated that The Touhys placed him in conservatorship instead of actually adopting him. He further claimed that they also took over the financial control and he was tricked into signing the film rights about his life story. The petition claimed that-
“Since at least August of 2004, Conservators have allowed Michael specifically, and the public, generally, to believe that Conservators adopted Michael and have used that untruth to gain financial advantages for themselves and the foundations which they own or which they exercise control.”
Why Did Jason Whitlock Call Out Oher?
During his podcast, Whitlock held nothing back while slamming Oher for his “despicable” claim against the Tuohys. He stated,
“He’s telling an obvious lie he knows most of the media will be too afraid to question because he’s black. Plus, the media is lazy. It’s easier to repeat Oher’s allegations than to question and/or research the legitimacy of them.”
“It’s also easier to just feel sorry for Michael Oher.”
Whitlock assured his audience that he came to this conclusion after watching The Blind Side which was based on Oher’s story and reading his book titled I Beat The Odds.
The Tuohy family released a statement through an attorney denouncing Oher’s allegations that the family gained financially from the Sandra Bullock movie, characterizing the claims as “absurd,” “hurtful,” and “outlandish.” Additionally, they accused Oher of attempting a $15 million shakedown.
Jason Whitlock further questioned the media for easily believing Oher’s side of the story and not the Tuohys.
“Why on Earth is Michael Oher pretending he only recently discovered the Tuohy family didn’t adopt him? Why are members of the media going along with Oher’s effort to shakedown the Tuohy family for cash under the pretense that they lied to, and exploited him, for profit?”
The 56-year-old sports commentator further accused Oher of being “arrogant” and “delusional” and also called him “ungrateful.”
“Michael Oher is so arrogant and delusional that he believes his natural intellect would have developed regardless of circumstances. It’s a naïve worldview. He’s still naïve.
He believes this desperate attempt to shake down the family that welcomed him into their home is a good look, and is going to lead to a financial windfall. It’s not. As lazy as the media is, as lazy as reporters and pundits are, they’re going to have to deal with the truth.”
Whitlock also emphasized how the Tuohys had nothing to gain from Oher as they were a wealthy family with a flourishing business when they adopted him. There was no reason for them to use Oher for financial gains.
“The Tuohys were wealthy when they took legal guardianship of Oher. They sold their family business for $200 million. They had no financial motive to exploit Oher.”
He further stated that the Tuohys have more “class” and “compassion” than Oher.
“They’re putting out this whole exploitive conservatorship nonsense, like it’s Britney Spears’ parents controlling all of her money. Michael, reporters, the world: The Tuohys have, and always have had, more money than Michael Oher. They also have more class, decency and compassion than Oher.”
Jason Whitlock concluded his explosive podcast episode by calling Michael Oher “emotionally broken.”
“[The Tuohys] side makes perfect sense. Here’s the deal that everybody’s gonna have to come to grips with: Michael Oher is every bit as emotionally broken as the first day as an overgrown teenager that he slept on the Tuohys’ couch.”
