MacKenzie Bezos may become the richest woman of the world soon.
The billionaire couple MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos have made an announcement regarding their divorce this Wednesday. Their split is likely to bring a change in the world’s richest people ranking.
Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, owns $137 billion fortune and his wife is likely to walk away with a good part of this fortune after the divorce.
AMAZON FOUNDED BY JEFF AFTER MARRIAGE
Amazon was founded by Jeff after the couple got married and MacKenzie could be entitled to take away half of the Amazon fortune which belongs to her husband. The couple live in Washington State and as per the laws, everything ranging from real estate to income is a part of the joint property.
This calls for a 50/50 split of the property, which is unlikely in the remaining 41 states. In other states, the property is separately owned in the name of the spouse and is not considered a joint property.
MACKENZIE TO GET HALF OF JEFF’S FORTUNE
If MacKenzie gets half of Jeff’s fortune, her worth would rise to around $68.5 billion and will take over the title of the richest woman of the world. However, as per Melisse G. Burstein, a CPA based in Miami who has a specialization in high stakes litigation accounting, it is less likely that there would be a 50/50 split of the assets. She added,
Because much of Jeff Bezos’ net worth is tied up in Amazon stock, it would be difficult to figure out how to get the wife 50%. I believe dividing the shares in the company could result in Jeff Bezos’ control of Amazon being diluted.
This is totally against the interest of MacKenzie Bezos as it would lead to devaluing the company and ultimately affect the worth of the individual shares.
Given the huge assets and wealth of the couple, they are likely to have a marital financial agreement.
