Jessica Hahn Career
Jessica Hahn gained public attention in March 1987 when Jim Bakker declared his resignation from his role as the leader of the Christian television network PTL, as well as from the Heritage USA theme park, water park, and residential complex.
This announcement followed an investigation by the “Charlotte Observer” into PTL’s financial dealings, which uncovered a payment of $279,000 made to Jessica. Hahn claimed that in December 1980, at the age of 21, she was drugged by preacher John Wesley Fletcher and subsequently raped by both Bakker and Fletcher.
In his 1997 publication, “I Was Wrong,” Bakker asserted that he did not sexually assault Jessica and characterized their interaction as consensual. During an interview on “Larry King Live,” Hahn was questioned about her decision not to report Bakker, to which she responded,
“Because my whole life was the church…he had his own zip code. He had his own post office box. This man had an empire.”
She further disclosed that she returned the hush money to the PTL partners, expressing concern for those who had lost their jobs following PTL’s bankruptcy filing in June 1987. Bakker received a 45-year prison sentence for charges including mail fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy; however, he served less than five years before being released in 1994.
