Jessica Holmes, the wife of the host of “A Place in the Sun,” has talked about the sweet ways she shows her love for him every day as he fights cancer. Jessica talks about some of the ways she shows Jonnie Irwin she loves him every day, like leaving notes “just telling him how proud I am of him” in places like his washbag that you might not expect.
In a heartbreaking interview, the couple, who have a 3-year-old son named Rex and 2-year-old twins named Rafa and Cormac, talk about the hard times they are going through. Jonnie Irwin, who is 49, has stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his brain. He has been given about six months to live. Jessica says that she can’t stand the idea of being a widow and a single parent. Jonnie Irwin, who says he is “very weak,” has been working because he didn’t buy critical condition coverage for his life insurance. Jessica says that before the TV star goes to work, she puts a short note in his washbag, telling him how proud she is of him.
‘I just want to be able to bring any bit of fun’
Jessica stated,
I keep telling him that no matter how much he tries and stresses himself out, there’s still going to be the s**t that will come after. I keep saying, ‘Do what makes you happy, if you want to do something just do it,’
according to a source.
Jessica added,
I just want to be able to bring any bit of fun and enjoyment back into his life which is really hard to do, especially with the reality of how much he’s struggling on a day-to-day basis.
Jessica is in denial about Jonnie Irwin’s cancer diagnosis, and she admits to getting angry about “how much cancer has ruined the last few years.”
‘The sole adult with three young boys’
Jessica said,
I can think of the support I’ll need and that sort of thing but when it comes to me, my life is the boys. That’s enough for me. That’s where my thinking stops, it terrifies me that I’m suddenly going to be in a house on my own, the sole adult with three young boys. The prospect of being a single mum and a widow is awful to think about.
Jessica says that when she and Jonnie Irwin first started dating in 2015, she fell in love with him because she thought “he would be an amazing dad and life partner.” Now, though, she says that she feels “completely broken” after hearing that Jonnie has cancer.
