James Christopher Gaffigan was born on July 7, 1966, in Elgin, Illinois. He was brought up in Chesterton, Indiana, along with his five siblings by his parents Marcia Mitchell, a philanthropist and event organizer, and Michael A. Gaffigan, a financial executive who previously held the position of president and CEO at Mercantile National Bank of Indiana. Sadly, both his mother and father passed away from cancer; his mother in 1990, and his father in 1999.
