Polish mixed martial artist Joanna Jedrzejczyk and former Strawweight UFC champion may soon jump back into the ring. Her teammate Mayra Beuno Silva recently spoke about Joanna’s return in her post-match interview. She also stated that the former UFC champion still trains like a beast and could potentially make her comeback into the Octagon.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk Teammate Hints At Her Comeback
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Mayra Bueno Silva revealed that Joanna Jedrzejczyk is one of the hardest fighters she’s seen which gives her hopes to see her back in the ring. She said that she and Joanna train together in the gym and Joanna still trains like a champion.
“It’s so crazy, she trains like she’s still the champion. I see her every day in the gym, we train together, and she’s training like she’s still the champion. I ask her, I tell her, ‘I’m not ready yet for you to retire’. Joanna was one of the biggest inspirations at home, for Gloria [de Paula] and I.
Silva, who was giving the interview ahead of the UFC Fight Night 219 where she competed against Lina Lansberg and won by a second-round knee bar. She added that she has asked Joanna to fight again and the former UFC Strawweight champion hasn’t denied stepping into the ring again.
“[I tell her] ‘We’re not ready for you to retire. Please fight at least one more time.’ And she’s always like, ‘We’ll see, we’ll see’ [laughs]. Man, she trains more than I do. When I get to the gym, she’s already there. When I leave, she’s still there. When I come back, she’s already training there.”
Joanna Jedrzejczyk fought in 2020 against Weili Zhang where she failed to reclaim her title with a five-round split decision. She returned to the octagon two years later to fight Zhang but lost the match by a knockout. Despite the hard loss, Silva believes in Joanna and considers her the “greatest of all times.”
“I believe she’s still going to fight. A fighter’s career is bitter, right? You spend your whole life dedicating and all of a sudden something like that happens and it’s very hard for you to overcome. But I think she’ll come back. She’s one of the greatest of all times, and a champion doesn’t stop like that.”

She’s also a six-time UFC Strawweight Champion in the division. Joanna won her first title in 2015 by defeating Carla Esparza in UFC 285 by a second-round TKO. She has since defeated fighters such as Jessica Andrade, Jessica Penne and Claudia Gadelha.
