In a recent interview, Johnny Depp admitted that he prefers his slower-paced life in the UK over his hectic existence in Los Angeles.
In the aftermath of his nasty divorce and separation, and following legal disputes with his ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, the 59-year-old has had a turbulent few years.
Following an op-ed Heard penned for The Washington Post in 2018, Depp filed a libel lawsuit against Heard. Depp’s lawyers maintained throughout the trial that Heard’s op-ed implied he had physically abused his ex-wife, even though she did not specifically name him. Heard’s charges allegedly lost him his reputation and his renowned Hollywood career, according to his legal team.
Jurors decided that Depp was entitled to $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
When asked about his response to Heard’s assertion that he is a victim of domestic violence back in court, Depp responded, “Yes, I am,” according to Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez.
After the highly publicized trial’s aftermath, Depp appears to have chosen a tranquil life in Somerset, in South West England.
The actor, who was rumored to be dating Winona Ryder, Kate Moss, and Vanessa Paradis, even spoke to the lifestyle publication Somerset Life about his new life. In the interview, he talks about his enormous 850-acre property from the 19th century, which cost close to $16 million and has 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
Depp remarked, “I absolutely adore locations with personality. British people are cool and will greet you without being overly chatty as if you were a neighbor. Although I enjoy traveling, experiencing new things, and interacting with people, I am not a huge extrovert.
Then he continued, “In all honesty, I’m a very shy person. One of the best things about Britain, particularly Somerset, is that. It’s good that I can just be myself. I no longer have to navigate a sea of selfie-seekers whenever I enter a store. That’s okay with me up to a point, but occasionally it feels a little crowded.
