Judi Dench is one of the most respected actresses of her generation. She has won a lot of awards and praise for her work. But in her personal life, she has regrets, just like the rest of us. And we’re here to bring her biggest mistake to light so you can maybe learn something from it too.
The first time, Judi Dench said no when her husband asked her to marry him.
When Dench was 36, she married Michael. During an interview, she said that Michael, who had the key to her heart, had asked for her hand in marriage not once, but twice. In 1971, they finally got married and had a daughter named Finty. She had her first child when she was 37 years old.
The 30 years of marriage were filled with happiness and bliss.
Michael Williams and Dame Judi had been married for 30 years when Michael Williams died of lung cancer at age 65 in 2001. Dench said that she and Mike’s 30-year marriage was easy and happy because of “luck.”
I don’t think we ever had to work at it,
stated Dench.
But in the end, Dench decided to keep acting. She went on to become one of the most successful and well-known actresses of all time, winning many awards and honors for her work on stage, screen, and TV.
After being married for a year, the couple had their first child.
The couple loved each other very much, and on September 4, 1972, they had a daughter, Finty, who is now 50 years old. Dench said that after she had her child, she thought about quitting her job to be a stay-at-home mom:
I’d had a daughter and having a family — I wanted to be at home.
Williams told her not to do that, so she tried to change her work schedule so she could spend more time with her girl.
When Judi thinks about her past, she has one big regret.
Dench was honest when she said that her biggest regret was that she didn’t have more children:
I wish we’d had lots more children. That’s the only regret I have. But I was older, and it didn’t happen.
She also said that they tried to adopt a child and “they didn’t like it because we were over 40 — and Michael was a Catholic and I was a Quaker.”
